Doom3 Sooooo....
Doom3 comes out next week. Supposedly they have Co-Op over XBL. (As well as Halo2ish Multiplayer.)
Are you thinking what I'm thinking, Pinky?

Yes, Brain, but where are we going to find a rubber band our size at this time of night?

It was pretty fun on the pc... And then there are people who don't have the stomach for it, who are hillarious to watch playing it. Currently I'm having fun running around as a ninja monkey or a large cookie in Time Splitters FP...

Again I find myself wishing for more Xbox vs. PC games.. I have it on PC (though haven't played it for a while, but I'll definitely crank it out before Ressurection of Evil arrives.. booyah!)

What, we get four anime fans, construct a crude arena, and play Hungry Hungry Hippoes for real?
I'd rather check out Worms 3D or Outrun 2 first. I hear they both rock on Live. Worms 3D even has Monty Python references! Not that I think that's anything new...

Actually, I haven't played it yet. I only got it yesterday, due to some RL Lag on Silrn's part. Also, what I did play last night consisted of Doom (not Doom3), and then a whole bunch of Beekeepers were on, so I jumped on Halo2 to play with them.
But it's gotten good/great reviews so far. Graphics look like they're going to be good-to-great, and the control scheme looks good. Halo2-esq, with a couple of changes, due to lack of things like melee attacks, as well as the inclusion of sprinting.
I'll probably start playing it a little later this week. Mostly because I might have people coming over tonight, and when Silrn's not at work we usually do EQ. And I'm trying to get some biking in when I get home at night. So I really haven't had much time to play with it. I also know I'm gonna get sucked in once I start playing it, so saying I'm only gonna play it for "an hour" probably won't happen But yeah, I'll definitely give a review once I manage to play it for a bit. Evidentily the campaign is 15-20 hours, so it's at least twice the length of Halo2, although supposedly it's a bit on the easy side.

Review:
So I played about an hour or so last night, before hopping on Halo2.... WOW.
I think I'm going to be really impressed with Doom3. The graphics are amazingly good, and the environment they build is wonderful. Silrn came downstairs to the living room while I was playing, and I almost had a heart attack.
It looks like Halo2 will have the better plot line, but I think I'm going to have more fun playing Doom3, just because they seem to have made it more of an experience. Plus, I hear it also has an ending.
The controls are hard to get used to. They're very close to Halo/Halo2 controls, but with just enough differences that it can cause me problems sometimes (mostly switching weapons, and reloading). However, that being said, they did a WONDERFUL job of porting the controls to the XBox controller. Most things are easy to find/remember when you need them, and they didn't leave out much, if anything, in the way of controls. They even have a quick-save button. Instead of using the 1-9 keys for weapons, you map your favorite weapons to the D-Pad, and can call them instantly from there. The switching time isn't the fastest, which is actually alright, as it creates some VERY tense situation when you're getting knocked around by an imp while trying to pull out your shotgun. You can also use the Y and B buttons to cycle forward/back through the weapons, but I haven't really gotten used to doing that. It's also interesting, trying to switch between the flashlight and weapons... hopefully it'll get easier as I get the hang of it.
The story looks interesting, and they did a good job of creating a sense of world, by including various people's "PDA's", that you download and then can read. You get snippets of what's going on from each one, from their own perspective.
Game play is said to be 15-20 hours, at least double Halo2, which I'm looking foward to. A lot of reviews says it gets repetative in the middle, but I'll let you guys know when I get there.
All in all, I'm very happy I picked this up. It's not for everyone, and it can be very scary/shocking, so if you don't like surprises, it's probably not for you. I can't tell you how many times I've been caught off guard when opening a door, only to start getting hit, and I CAN'T FIND THE GUY. Then I see him, in the SHADOWS, down the hall, shooting me with the machine gun. definitely keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Also, for any old-school gamers... the ports of Doom and DoomII are amazing. Well, the port of Doom is, at least. I haven't played DoomII yet, but I spent a little while the other night on Doom, and it was GREAT. Exactly like I remembered it. Secrets and everything. And again, the controls are mapped really well to the controller. I expect DoomII to be the same.
So yeah, I had no problem dropping $60 on this, and I'd do it again.
