To elaborate on firefox's post, I've been messing with it in photoshop and have a picture where the artifacts are easier to see.

http://photobucket.com/albums/v188/Marrec/Attention2.gif

I'm not sure at all if these little artifacts pertain to the URL we need... but it sure doesn't look like a coincidence.

ok, I applied to the clan

Atrophied

Level 3
Noodle Neophyte

Muscle: 9
Mysticality: 8
Moxie: 5

I'm not drunken yet Smile
Edit: yes I am Smile Rolling Eyes what a game Smile

... now back to the puzzling

which has me stumped, I've tried different permutations of the letters, nothing so far.

checking the KoL forums, there's 2 clans onto #9 already.
should we ask for help from other unfictologists who haven't seen this?
Because I'm at a loss with this #3 puzzle, it seems to be so obvious, but then isn't.

This is a 2 step puzzle guys.

Hmm... the word 'Attention'

Hmm...a Kingdom of Loathing login box

I wonder if:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
If KOL has a 'whois' command in it Smile Razz

But that's the EASY part..... Rolling Eyes

The part I'm stuck in is

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Interpreting the riddle. It looks as if we need to find 3 letters/characters/word that would fill in the astricks in the 'password' (***4444)

could you explain (elaborate on) your last post?
I 'whois'd KoL, and got nothing.

I know it has:
"ATTN: KINGDOMOFLOATHING.COM"
as one of the lines in the whois, but I couldn't get anything from it.

Edit: Unless you mean a 'whois' within the game itself, in which case I'm totally lost, I just looked and could find nothing.

OK, I got it now.

Edit2: whoever you are, thank you muchly Smile

PART ONE:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
add "Attention" to contacts, view profile of said contact.

damn, that makes it easy Smile

PART TWO:
now for the riddle.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Three little letters
A paradox to some:
The worse that it is
the better it becomes.

solve that to get to #4

there ya go Smile

Riddle:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The first thing that I think of is blood types. Three letters, A, B and O, if the blood is negative, it's rarer. But that's just my first thought.

Nope, not blood types. Your guess is in vein. Mr. Green

Shad0 did you know the answer already... or was that 'your guess was in vein' a completely freaky occurence?

Many thanks chippy Smile

that gives us:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
http://www.noblesse-oblige.org/insanesteve/pun4444.html

stage #4 here I come Smile

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

An Excel Book:

METE---WOB----TCOCR--BTBF
VKAPK--TBB----WGTL----BBF
WTMW--JR------NED------PFF
GGM----TCOTL-DLB------_____

Text: YOU WILL BE OWNED. (repeating)

A chocolate chip cookie, a book (green), and an island (possibly Carribbean)

Hint:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
This is the first puzzle that requires you to search for some outside information to solve. The three images outside the grid are linked somehow, and the one with the arrow is more important, somehow. Finding this connection is the big key to the puzzle.

Sorry to disrupt the honestly more imporant puzzling, but I wanted to let all know that I will be attempting to gain entry to the Bearded Clan today, and that I go by the moniker "dorkmaster". (Don't ask why... it just came to me in a flash of brilliance.)

dorkmaster

Level 7 Iguana Driver

Muscle: 44
Mysticality: 32
Moxie: 38

Two Familiars... One Screeching Balloon Monkey (21 lbs, I think) and a 21 lbs mosquito.

Oh yeah... and I own beer goggles, so ladies... a night of drunken adventure is YOU! Laughing

Yes, the pun was my lame attempt at a hint. Ah, well. Mr. Green

The most annoying thing about Stage #3 was how long it took me to try looking up a character named "Attention"...considering that Insane Steve used that particular gimmick twice in his last riddle contest! Bang Head

Insane Steve wrote:
Also, you are probably thinking of one of the three pictures incorrectly... you need a certain exact thought for each picture in order to make a link.

I think that the leftmost object is not a chocolate chip cookie. It's driving me nuts, because I think I've seen it before, but I cannot for the life of me remember in what context. I think it's made of plastic...and for some reason I've got an image in my mind of blood cells or something medical like that. Mad

I'm not sure what the link is - but I'll tell you what's wrong with the picture:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Excel doesn't number its columns - they're given letters
