Trip to Vegas

So my sister's getting married in Vegas next May. May 8th to be exact. I know that there are some people here who live in Vegas and many travelled there for the last ARG fest. I've been trying to look online for some room prices and most of the hotels on the strip are pretty high, especially since I have to be there for the weekend days. Any advice? Any off strip hotels that anyone would suggest? I see that the Orleans hotel is cheaper and a couple of miles off the strip. Is this a bad idea? Is there a reason its cheaper? Anyone ever stay there? Some of the hotels near Freemont seem to be cheap too. Anyone know of any good ones?

I was 6 1/2 months pregnant when I went to Vegas so seeing as I had to stop and pee at every single hotel we passed, I didn't get to see much. Smile

I stayed at the Orleans when I went to visit family. I don't recall it being anything wonderful or awful. Lots of smoke, lots of gambling. Rooms were average. I suspect that it's not much different than any other place.

They did have a shuttle, to take you to the strip. That was nice. No hassle about parking.

No matter where you stay, it's gonna be more expensive over a weekend. The Tuscany is indeed a reasonable rate. Off the strip, you can find stuff definitely cheaper, especially some of the non-casino hotels/motels. If it were me, I'd stay away from Circus Circus, or the Excalibur. The Tropicana is actually very nice, and usually is a lot cheaper than the rest of the strip. The Stratosphere is also at the bottom of the price list, and might be worth a look, though I've never stayed there.

For the budget consious, I'd recommend checking out the Holiday Inn Express in Henderson, or Sunset Station in Henderson. Vegas.com usually has some pretty good air/hotel package deals, too.

My favorite hotel, when money is no object: Mandalay Bay. Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green
My favorite hotel, when money is an object: Green Valley Ranch. Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green
Best kept secret in Vegas: Marriott Suites in Summerlin Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green Mr. Green

Next week, watch for my reviews of the Best Buffets in Vegas. Cool
