A lot of horoscopes are set out in a few set parts, so I wouldn't read too much into that element of the futures..

I always had a feeling that 'shuffle' was in regards to re-arranging letter's in word's. I have grown a dislike for anagrams now tho =) I much prefer your idea on it.

The futures for the week of April 4th.

It appears to me that references in the futures point to other signs:

Quote:
The Eagle (March 11 - April 10)
Persistence pays; this is the week for you to be stubborn. Stand your ground. Beware the Jug who will try to derail you.

The Eagle -> Half - Filled Jug

Quote:
The Spider (April 11 - May 10)
As your skirmish rolls on, you may require a distraction. A fluffy movie, a new pair of shoes, or some Earth-lit might be perfect to lift your spirits.

The Spider -> The Dice (rolls)

Quote:
The Wave (May 11 - June 10)
Try your brain at your local puzzle open this week. I know you can be intimidated by live events, but you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. You're making great strides.

The Wave -> The Archer (shot)

Quote:
The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
Intelligence has driven you where you are. It is, however, not everything. You're becoming cold, and I fret that you'll freeze out your support system.

The Half-filled Jug (July 11 - August 10)
Endgame can't come too soon for you, eh? Take some time to really explore your world fully now. Breathe it in while you still have a chance.

The Dragon (August 11 - September 10)
"Nice spec. Buy you a drink?" This haggard line was actually used on me at a puzzlebar this weekend. Needless to say, I had to retort with another classic: "What's your sign, baby?" Dragons, get new material. Please.

The Dragon -> The Baby

Quote:
The Three Balls (September 11 - October 10)
Cased any joints lately? Several Balls I know are up to no good. Crime doesn't pay, dudes.

The Three Balls -> The Apple Thief (crime)

Quote:
The Dice (October 11 - November 10)
Expect a windfall. Then do the opposite of your norm. Rather than putting those Lecks back into the games, please set some aside. You'll need them next month.

The Maze (November 11 - December 10)
Kick those energy leeches out of your life. You know you have to sooner or later!

The Apple-Thief (December 11 - January 10)
If we shadows have offended, think but this and all is mended. That you have but slumbr'd here, whilst these visions did appear.

The Hand (January 11 - February 10)
Does my third eye deceive me? Are you really eyeing the Three Balls? If you want to end up like Joya and Alejo, I suppose it's really none of my business.

The Hand -> The Three Balls also?

Quote:
The Baby (February 11 - March 10)
Spring is all sprungy, so splurge on something cute and pastel. Nothing works as well as fashion for a panacea!

So

The Eagle -> Half - Filled Jug
The Spider -> The Dice
The Wave -> The Archer
The Dragon -> The Baby
The Hand -> The Three Balls -> The Apple Thief

Leaving The Maze as the odd one out?
Not sure what to do with this next, if anything! What about the maze on the postcard?

hehe im the maze, and yes theres a maze on the postcard, and yes i tried the first week to tie in the maze with the future for the maze and lordy i got nothing.

i think the futures are just a fun poke the PM's are taking at each other. They're obviously having fun writing them, so maybe they just each picked a sign out of a hat, and have to write for that sign with each update. like their own little game we know nothing about. Wink

but then again: could be a legitimate puzzle, i just cant get my head around how pickup lines in a puzzle bar could ever be anything more than a light poke at our own over-speculations. Smile

[EDIT: No, you didn't Smile Usually spoilers are reserved for solutions, or at least partial solutions. yanka.]

The shoes thing reminds me of Covington & Ling's emails found in the error logs. And what do you think they mean by "Earth-lit"?

And is a "skirmish roll" anything like an eel & cucumber roll Wink

Earth literature?

Yeah, I'm not convinced Firefox. The futures just have the feel of cryptic clues. I know a lot of people are advocating patience regarding this game, but there has been a long lead up to it (the whole pre-game and updating video/newspaper adverts) so why would the PMs start the game if it still wasn't ready? Then again maybe I'm just over analysing because I want the game to have started in ernest!

I'm assuming Earth-lit as in Literature.

I'm just curious as to whether there's anything in the fact that all Apple-thief futures have been in verse (so far)...

maybe this means we'll be getting a bunch of keys and clues that we will need to use later

a reference to Earth-Lit and a Shakespeare quote!!!

[EDIT: fixed quote tags. yanka.]

I did Midsummer Night's Dream at school. Fair few years ago now, but I remember Puck was a mischievous imp or something. His final soliloquy (partly quoted in Futures) was basically trying to say that the whole play was nothing more than a silly dream and not worth worrying about (and that spending 2 years studying the bloody thing was a total waste of time). Or something along those lines.

More fuel on the "Futures is just a bit of fun" fire?

The Shakespeare quote in the Apple-Thief made me think about the march 28 Archer future:
Quote:
The Archer (June 11 - July 10)
The fruits of your labor are sour. Taking up arms is never suggested, though it is often appropriate. Just don't forget to take backup.

Sepcifically, I thought of Hamlet's famous soliloquy that starts with "To be or not to be". It's first five lines are
Quote:
To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;

"Taking up arms" is Hamlet referring to ending his personal torments by killing himself (at least that's what I learned in high school). If Shakespeare's going to be "in play" for this arg, then I think this is a valid connection to make. I don't know what exactly to do with the Shakespeare connection, though. [spec]I have a vague suspicion that all the futures will all come together at some point either as one huge word puzzle or as part of a larger puzzle, so there may be several Shakespeare-related clues that all fit together once we have all of them. The "Earth-lit" reference in the April 4 The Spider might be there to point us to Shakespeare.[/spec]

More Mythology?

There are things within the futures that point both to them being nothing but a diversion AND to them containing a clue of some kind.

We just can't seem to get away from the astrology/Greek mythology angle, though. The Spider is telling us to read some "Earth lit[erature]", then the Apple-Thief is a quote from A Midsummer Night's Dream - a play with characters named from mythology. The whole play itself is based on mythological characters interacting in a real/non-mythological world. Seems like an allegory for the PPC game itself.

Sorry if I seem like a dog with a bone, but The Eagle did tell me to be persistent and stubborn!
