[ARG] The Art of the Heist Got this email from the ARGN announcement email list...
Quote:
Our intrepid researchers at the Alternate Reality Gaming Network have turned up something interesting today. Virgil Tatum is an erstwhile artist/game designer, as his website (www.virgilkingofcode.com) attests. He's had quite an interesting history, designed numerous groundbreaking video games over the years, and has had his share of tragedy, a fact which caused him to take a break from making games for a while.
But it seems Virgil is back and finally designing games again, and has begun with a project based on the life of a friend of his, Nisha Roberts. Nisha runs Last Resort Retrieval, a company that tracks down and recovers stolen artwork. Screenshots and info from this and previous games can be found on Virgil's site.
Some further investigation leads us to conclude that this is indeed a rabbithole for a new ARG, unrelated to any currently running games. Additionally, we've just discovered that this ARG seems to be going by the name "The Art of the Heist," and that there is experienced investment behind this game. There's already a lot of info to dig into at Virgil's site. We'll post updates as further details become available.
There is no current discussion thread on unfiction, but don't let that stop one of you from starting one.

For those who noticed "the car" connection.. let's just hope this doesn't turn into a viral ad because it's really promising. If the PM's are reading.. maybe you want to conceal some things a bit.. well I guess that's why you have passwords on everything.. ok no harm done

I guess you're referring to the domain name that you get the error message from if you fail to log into nishanet.lastresortretrieval.com ? That puzzled me for a bit; tried using it as a username and/or password in a few places but no joy.

Found an advertisment which leads to the trailhead today..
While browsing kuro5hin.org , the attached image was what it looked like. The links just take you to different pages on the VKOC website.
Is that where the ARGN announcement came from?

This is OOG - but it is a funny coincidence.
Renoir Painting Stolen from Paris Auction House
On a game note, this might be a great way to contact Nisha & Ian.

I sent an email to NishaSPLAT LastResortRetrieval.com asking if they could help us find the Receda Cube.
I have not yet got a reply.
This looks like a well designed ARG.

Nice find! Just to keep a record of things, I've attached a screenshot to go along with the other one.

Advertisements I'm sure this is just an ad to bring more people into the game, and nothing more. Still a good find though. Hope we see a bunch more people coming into the genre!

Wired Marketplace - April 2005 Issue, page 140 While lazily flipping through this month's Wired Magazine again, I noticed a peculiar advertisement. It is a black square that measures 2.5 inches wide by 2 inches tall, containing white italicized text, stating:
"A lost art. Found." -LRR
Of course, it didn't mean anything to me the first time I flipped through the magazine a couple of weeks ago, but now that I recognize the message, it's pretty darned cool.
