[Xbox] My dead XBOX... what to do?

My Xbox is semi-dead. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It gives me the infamous "Your Xbox needs service" in 7 languages error. You just let it rest for a while and it works, but lately it's taking longer and longer (3 days last time and haven;t used it since).

I will not attempt a repair because it seriously limits my choices if unsuccesful, so here are my choices:

-Sell it broken on e-bay for $50-60 (I was pleasantly surprised to see that's what they're fetching these days) and then buy a new one for about 150 + tax. Pros: Gain one controller, newer Xbox will likely have fewer bugs. Cons: crummy 3 month warranty. Core systems are hard to find. Ebay sale price not guaranteed. Out of Pocket: $100-$110

-Send it back to MS for repair. They charge 79.99 and I pay shipping to them. Return shipping is included in the price. Guaranteed that they can fix it or give me a new one. PROS: One year warranty. CONS: Same old box could go back for repairs many more times. Out of pocket: $90

What would you do?

I'd say option 1. Set a reserve price on the auction and see what happens. That way you get a fresh system without much extra expense.

Unfortunatly, I think you named your only two recourses...

you might want to try "www.llama.com" and see if they might have any info on your problem...

They are a good resourse to use for xbox hardware problems...

Ask Tiny, otherwise known as DantesVenom. He just fixed his own X-box, and he might have some very useful tips for you.

I say totally gut it and advertise it as an xbox box, making it look like a typo.

Sell the box's box for whatever you can get keep the parts, they will do for the future, as a plus not the box box isn't broken, it's fine so you ain't lying to anyone. You'll get more money too rather than sell an broken xbox as advertised. Hell throw in a pad for free!

But have you got the balls or the lack of ethics?!

BTW this is not my own idea and is mearly a suggestion!

Hey, If you do need some help, I might be able to fix it. Just drop me a line on Xbox live or Aim or email me, you might be able to fix it with less then 10$ if your lucky.

You can try brining it to a game store like EB. They can usually take it and fix it up really cheap.

But, If you want to do this, DO NOT take it apart, as soon as you do they will most likely turn you away
