I understand what you mean there Krystyn.

BUT, there were numerous times last time we played that the matchmade players were being complete jerks and they did not need to be.

It is frustrating that it seems the lowest common denominator seems to get paired up with us in matchmaking.

Yes, it does feel good to take out the individual but still. I just don't like hearing my friends be treated like that.

On another rant of sorts, we were in a matchmade game this past evening on waterworks. I was in my normal spot and keeping a close eye on who came and went from their base when lo and behold, they captured the fag THREE times in ten seconds.

Now, if they fought us fair and square and took the flag to their base 3 times in a row...fine.

But that is not what happened...

can not wait till patch come out

grrr...argh...

(on a lighter note...page 200 Twisted Evil )

I'm with you there. Not a big fan of free for all. Specially king of the hill and oddball like we had yesterday ... You just kill/die too much and it becomes meaningless.

Oh, and for the record, I consider team slayer a strategy game. Maybe "light strategy". But I've been playing team slayer quite a lot lately and when you get around level 11-12, you need some strategy to win games! Getting killed is a lot more meaningful and you have to play a lot more carefully. I usually get a lot of kills on TS games, but I get waaaay too many deaths! I'm learning to improve my kill/death ratio, because that's the key on TS games ...

I really don't care about anonymous jerks, even when they cheat.

Same here. As I said before, I think sometimes we let jerks get under our skin too easily! I know it's not easy when you're not in a good mood or something like that. But there's room for improvement on how we handle jerks ...

One suggestion. Shouldn't we create distinct topics to discuss strategies? Maybe 1 for each map or 1 for each type of matchmaking (skirmish/BTB/TS)? I think good info gets lost on this insane long thread ...

I agree, but it's probably more relevant to post strategies and such outside of this fourm. I know someone setup a wiki for this many moons ago.http://halo2.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome
but I don't think anyone is activly using it right now.

I'd prefer to have it here, so we could discuss and refine strategies. I actually think it's better to have topics for each matchmaking playlist, since there are some strategies/tips that can apply for BTB, for example, no matter which map you're playing.

i'm with Krystyn 100% here, Oddball on Midship with 16 people is just nerve wracking, its not really fun, i enjoy team objective games much more. Matchmaking is fine if all the beekeepers are working together against the anonymous jerks.

yeah, SuperJerms, we really didn't have our stuff together for those team slayer games, at the very end (like the last few seconds!) we finally got some strategy: Ubercado sniped and i started to guard the tower ramp (Ascension). Before that though, we didn't stick together well, and i'd often run into 2 or 3 of them together when it was just me.

on a different note, is there anything i can do to help me kill people in close combat? i often wind up dumping 2 whole SMG clips (duel wield) into an opponent with no result and a few shots to the head and i'm down. i THINK i'm shooting them in the head, but maybe i'm not. for those of you who have killed me in close combat, what am i doing wrong?

When we all get together we do have some truly amazing players. We just need to get coheasive in our movements...

From what I have seen...

Krystyn and I - decent snipers...(although she is better than I)
Jinx - VERY good at just about every role (attacking / harrasment)
Java Skywalker - Flag grabbing and defense
Weephun - A madman in the wraith (ouch)
Thunderclap 8 - Defending and coordinating
Dante - VERY good at every role (attacking / harrasment)
Ubersaurus - VERY goog at every role (attacking / harrasment)
Grifter_7 - Flag Diving and general harrassment
VectorB - Flag Diving and Vodka Bottle Playing
Superjerms, Clayfoot, Waters, Woody are all good in supporting roles

If I left someone out, please let me know...

These are just my opinions on what I have seen...not trying to upset anyone...

Correct me if I am wrong...

(added vectorB and Grifter_7)

I agree with this. I think everybody kinda knows their role on a game. I think we just need to go one step further and try to get the max of everyone. I still think we lose some winnable games. Not that I lose any sleep over this, but I think there's room for improvement.

I think that after spawning, if people hold back for 10 seconds and call for a base busting buddie bee, attacks will be much more productive.

See, I disagree. I think, while we do have wonderful players, we all happen to be jack-of-trades of sorts. And thus, we DON'T know our roles in the game. One game, I'm a sniper. Next, a driver. Next, flagman. It varies from game to game, not only for me, but I think for a lot of people.

Not that this is a bad thing, necessarily, but I think that's what we lack, more than a cohesive strategy. People don't have "roles" to fill, so they try and do what they can, which may or may not be what's needed. Great, we have 6 people going for the flag, but they're not organized, and no one is covering the escape route. It's not anyone's fault, and they all do well getting TO the flag, but then we get blasted on the extraction and getting it more than 5 feet from the base.

That's my $.02 anyway, although I could be WAY off base.

I don't disagree totally. But I think I don't want to have a fixed role. As you said, most of us are jack-of-all-trades. I think that as soon a game starts, everyone starts to claim a role or a weapon. I know it's not perfect, but not a total mess.

I think we should get some strategies together, like we started on this thread. And then when a game starts, players start to claim them. Of course it can't be totally organized to the point it's not fun, but a bit more organized!

Yeah, defense is definitely my forte. That and paradropping out of a banshee for some reason.

I'm lousy at coming up with overarching strategies of my own, I'm better at tactics - calling for and directing backup, modifiying as I go, etc.

And like waters, I'm not sure I want to have a fixed role. Might take away some of the fun.

Um... I had a point when I started this post, I swear.

Well, it wouldn't be a FIXED role, probably just for that game. And obviously it'd have to be something you wanted to do Razz

I'm not suggesting much more than, instead of claiming a weapon after the game starts, claim the role before hand. That way you dont' get 3 people going after the same weapon, and then having to think up something else to do when they don't get it. It wastes time and energy.

I just think taking roles provides more flexability and oppertunity than trying to have a set plan. And flexability is where it's at in these games.

Oh, I agree. But we have to define the roles first! And they are not the same, depending on the map/playlist you're playing. I agree we need flexibility, but it's nice to have a couple of set plans that you can adjust depending on the game conditions.
