Misdirected Email Two minutes after I received a congratulatory email for my entry in the Station Slogan contest, I received a second email with the same subject, but which was obviously not contest related. Another glitch in the AIB communications systems? It appears to contain two separate messages. Is Simon Miller using diamonds or other crystals grown on the station to buy, erm, whatever it is he's buying? Do you think the email glitch and/or the contents should be reported to station officials?
Here is the email:

Dear sir,
Thank you for your interest our range of exotic collectables for the discerning
gentlemen. I must admit that you have contacted us in a very unusual manner.
Most of our clientele render payment after they tell us what they are searching
for. Do not take this as an insult or an attempt to stop our business
transactions before we have even begun. I simply wanted to register my surprise
at your unorthodox business practices.
Your currency is of the highest quality and has a purity do not see very often
on Earth. Everything you order should be easily paid for by such an object,
especially since you did mention that there may be more like it in the future.
All that remains now is for you to tell us what you desire and we can arrange
for the procurement and delivery of these objects.
Finally, and as you have no doubt made yourself aware of before contacting me,
we pride ourselves in prompt and discrete delivery. We utilize nondescript
packaging that does not allow busybodies and prudish sorts to deduce what we
are delivering to you. Our business transactions are just between you and I and
I suggest that you destroy all correspondence when we are finished.

Dear valued customer,
What a very exacting and detailed list you have delivered to our humble hands!
We are most humbled by the trust you are placing in us to find these rare
collectables and, if I may so bold, no one has ever asked such an eclectic
and... racy list of items of us before. I hope that your faith in us will not
go unrewarded. Please allow us a few weeks to see how much of this list we can
procure.

Hmmmm.... I noticed that the times (not the dates) the e-mails were sent are the same... I tried them as Simons' password, but got nothing. This would definitely be something that I would send to Hanna.

Well - I'm going to email Simon to congratulate him on being chosen to represent the miners on the station council. I think I'll ask him about his "Novelties" as well. (probably get no response though )

I did get a reply - but I'm not sure how to respond at the moment. He said
Quote:
Now, about these... novelties. What exactly is it you think I have? I want to
make sure we're on the same page before I say anything, even if you are a
provisional
Any guesses as to what the novelties might be? Do you think if I send the wrong suggestion it will be ignored?

Suggestion Before responding to Simon... ask around and see if you can't find out what BlackBird Novelties sells. That might give you a better idea of what to respond to Simon with.

Got this rather amusing reply from Mary regarding Blackbird Novelties
Quote:
Blackbird Novelties... no, I'm afraid that I haven't heard of it. I
asked around a bit and no one else around the station has heard of it. One of
the miners did give me an odd look when I asked. You didn't just trick me
into asking them about a porn seller or something did you?
Ha - maybe frank was porn then!
Hanna responded as well
Quote:
No, I'm sorry, never heard of it. Isn't there a nursery rhyme about
blackbirds? That's all I can think of. Novelties? Is some company going
to be making some sort of ugly little plastic figurines of the station to sell?
I don't know if it would sell very well. Most of the people on earth
don't seem to care much about the station.
Which doesn't seem to help much either - although the reference to "Sing a song of sixpence" is intriguing. That nursery rhyme originated as a coded message to recuit crew members for pirate ships!

Unfortunately it's probably not worth pursuing this idea - the pirate connections of this nursery rhyme were created as a hoax!

Just shows you - checking Snopes by googling rather than going straight to Snopes is a bad idea!

Misdirections Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere...
I was thinking that the weird communication glitches might indicate that something is up with the waypoint station. All of station forum messages and emails go through there, no?
