I need quotations

I've decided to write an article for the Sentinel, as suggested by the contact page. The article will try to give an Earthian perspective on Sente, and describe his activities so far, for Perplexians who don't know what he's done. In order to do this, I'll need quotes from Earthians, both descriptive (e.g. "He sent us an e-mail saying such-and-such") and reactive ("The way he treats us is incredibly annoying!").

I've decided that the article will be critical of Kiteway, since the Sentinel is more likely to publish it that way. It'll attack him as a fool, though, not a criminal mastermind - saying he doesn't really understand Earth, so he's making mistakes, that sort of thing. Those are the sorts of quotations I'm looking for. I may also want some faux-stupid quotations, to make it seem as if the Earthians he's relying on are idiots. I'll put up some specific questions later, but for now just give me general stuff.

When I finish the first draft, I'll put it up here for comment and editing, and incorporate any nifty ideas into the version I send in. That seems to be in the spirit of the thing.

'Why is it that Sente thinks people from Earth are so materialistic? He dangles the reward like a carrot and expects us to bite? He should offer us something more substantial than money, Cube knowledge perhaps?'

'I feel like keeping the cube for myself!'

There ya go Wink

Be aware that I've already attempted this - and my suspicion is that Sente is filtering emails to the Sentinel to remove anti-Sente propaganda. Remember, Sente controls the flow of information between us and Perplex City - and he's likely to use that to his advantage.

I'm inclined to think not. After all, he let the Cormoran editorial get to us. But you have a point; maybe I should hide it or encode it somehow. Not sure what the best way to do that would be. The only thing I can think of is to trick Sente into doing it himself; e-mail Sente's autoresponder, but specify news@perplexcitysentinel as the return path, and use the timing of the e-mails as Morse code. That would take a long time, though.

Those are my PCL 0.02. Does that sound stupid enough? Twisted Evil Razz Cool

"So far I have received a grand total of 2 e-mails from Kiteway - which have been 3 months apart. How can this 'Master' of the Academy leave his only hope for cube retrieval so in the dark?"

Can't think of any more good ones at the mo, I'll probably get back to you.

hmm faux-stupid quote:

"I'm willing to help this Sente-guy out. Afterall, when them Perplexians abducted me, they seemed like decent enough folk. Although, it wasn't so much a Cube as a floating disc thingy. Just hope it doesn't take as long as last time I got involved with them Perplexians-- that time, I missed America's Funniest Home Videos-- that show cracks me up."

end faux? No, end Stupid-quote

Let's try not to be too, you know, degrading to either the man, the establishment, or the cube.

He is master of the academy and a respected individual in the community (and probably much better at puzzles than you: that's what this society hinges upon you know)

The academy appears to be a cornerstone of perplexian society. Tho some people disagree with the basic sentiment, The academy is very respectable.

And the cube is a magnificent artifact. Talk of keeping it to ourselves should be avoided at all costs.

These thoughts are in this context of writing letters to the sentinel. Other letters to whomever, say what you will. But a serious continegent in the Sentinel should show some considerable respect fFor the subject matte, even while impugning characters and activities.

I should also note: so fFar I am an abject supporter of sente's cause and efforts. If the game was intended to cause doubt and draw lines, it has succeeded.

Maybe we could include some comments expressing our intentions to help Perplexians, but at the same time demanding more direct information related to the case. Something like this:

[More serious quote]"We do have the intention to help Perplex City in what is possibly one of their hardest moments by getting back the Cube to its rightful owners, and we also understand Master Kiteway's form of providing us with confidential information about the incident needs great discretion. We even know that the thieves could have access to that crucial information if he doesn't proceed carefully at giving us the clues. But we strongly demand more immediate and direct action on behalf of Mr. Kiteway. If he takes too much time to provide us with key material to the case, the thieves will get away and the Cube may never be recovered."[More serious quote]

I also think that we shouldn't use too many faux-stupid quotes for the article. My first reason is that we don't want to cause a bad impression of ourselves as if we were some kind of underdeveloped primitive species. Second, they know we are not idiots. And if they thought that we are idiots, they would be idiots too if they continued giving Mr. Kiteway the huge financial and material support announced almost a year ago.

I would agree with most of what Scott says above. And I too am in favour and support of Sente. I also quite like Scarlett as a character. She brings a little fun into the game. So far the two-way communication we've had between Earth and PPC has been building up nicely.

But, because I'm feeling silly I've written my damning editorial piece Wink I would urge you not to include this though, because its doesn't reflect my true feelings Smile (or if you do, then don't quote me!)

"Our communication with Sente has amassed to little more than a dribble of incoherent scribblings; and what has been received is so shrouded in obfuscation that we are left wondering whether Sente is capable of finding his own shoes in the morning, let alone the Cube.
Instead, the people of Earth are left conversing with Kiteway's daughter; a 19 year-old woman with the sensibilities of an 12 year-old girl suffering from ADHD. How are we supposed to communicate 'intelligently' and 'fairly' when the very man who has enlisted our help won't communicate in return?"

When I'm quoting you guys/gals/neuters, should I do it as quotations of internet material, or should I present the answers as if they were spoken dialogue?

I think you could make it ambiguous, eg:

"Public opinion over Sente is divided: 'I think Sente is a great man', says Demontague, an Earthian brown sock-puppet with a silly hat. Zzedar is not as forgiving, and claims '..his attempts at building fair and intelligent communication have so far proved unsatisfactory.'"

or something like that.
