I think that one of the biggest things that will help us, OK, wait, two things:

a) If someone freaking asks a question, and you can give the answer, or you can provide feedback that shows you are listening, even if you don't have a particularly helpful answer, DO SO

b) LISTEN to each other, and DO NOT TALK OVER EACH OTHER. The other night? I was ready to start lacing my bullets with Ritalin, just so I could pop you all in the head. Robo says he liked the training session, but I have no idea how, as there were always 17 people AT A MINIMUM, talking all at the same time.

THEN, maybe, you can all start making plans and stuff.

Because plans don't work if you don't freaking listen to each other, or give each other respect when someone else is talking.

I liked the training because I learned some new things and saw more potiential in us as a group.

That said, I agree that there is WAY too much chatter. It became readily apparent in the lobby when we were trying to analyze our performances and develop strategies. I think we may need to develop a CB style system.

Announce your name, make your point, announce you are finished.
example "ROBOGriff here, sniper is on the dark side with rocket guy, over!"

We all know that silence is necessisary in stealth. If someone becomes a chatterbox reguarly, then we all just mute him.

You'll be waiting quite a while. He's in Brazil for the next few weeks.

sorry all, I'm currently in the process of playing through doom 3 right now, on the odd night I have some free time... soon's that's done, I'll prolly be right back into this (on the odd night Razz) I miss y'all Wink
I keep missing out on all the training and planned gatherings... Crying or Very sad

of course, my last like 5 posts in this thread have been saying the exact same thing over and over Razz heh

but I still read all the posts here, and I'm trying to learn what I can by reading... but so much is just going right over my head... like all the 'go the rocket spot' or 'sword place' and all that... no idea where any of those are to form strategies Razz I'm still pretty much in basic area of either following people or gunning it around the map pretty much... haven't memorized the map contents yet, as others have also expressed. My strategies are pretty much always solely based on what I hear from others during gameplay Smile

I feel kinda like maybe I play ... too ... much ... how do you guys not know these terms after just a few games?

I am not trying to be snotty at all, I swear: how is it after all these games together that you all don't know "sword way" and "where the sniper spawns" and stuff like that, on various maps?

I ... didn't think I played that much, but ... maybe I do. Hrm.

For some reason I still get confused as to what "sword way" means on Headlong. No idea why, there's no excuse for it really other than I must not go that way often...

Cuz, I'm always just focusing on the fun of the game, rather than learning and growing in knowledge and strategy specifically Smile I've never made it to a real 'training' session, so every time I join, it's about having fun... when everyone around you is playing, it's hard to just explore Wink

and ya...

maybe you do... Wink hehe the only reason I'm still level 11 is cuz I rarely play these days... I'm willing to bet that as high as I'll go at this rate, while others zoom by me who play more often... *shrug* it's all about fun, but I'm missing out on the 'higher order' of fun, in the strategizing and knowing the teamwork and naturally following map specific strategies and fallbacks that have been practiced... ah well
maybe eventually I'll get there... but I'm sure I'm not alone with these sentiments Smile... right?...

I've had my friends ask me the most idiotic questions in the game, even though they've all been playing since november 9th. I think my favorite was "where's the rocket on waterworks?"

Seriously, there's no excuse for that by this time, unless you really aren't paying that much attention ;p God knows my friends aren't. How many times have we done games where I, as the bomb runner, died, and instead of heading back to base to defend, the other guys on the team continued their march to their base, because they DIDN'T NOTICE I WAS DEAD. As though the red X and the sudden vanishing of the neutral bomb on their HUD wasn't enough.

I ended up being the only guy on defense, and getting destroyed.

And that's why I want to set up a joint session wednesday.

The best way to learn the locations is to start a split screen game by your self and just wander.

That's how I did it and things began clicking the first week, it seemed.

I would have thought after all these months that you guys would have run out of things to talk about by now. Very Happy

But maybe I'm just the strong, silent type. Well... okay, not strong.

I nominate you for field commander

Simple. I only play for 2 hours at a time. And I can only seem to play once a month. And when I do play, it's usually on 2 maps. I'm better on the maps that I play most often than the one odd map that pops up in matchmaking. But THAT is the reason for training.

Now slightly off topic, I may not be able to participate in training due to forced overtime on the job till May. Clayfoot is willing to set everything up though.

It might be interesting to try my hand at it. Not sure I have the attention span, but I have been grabbing the sniper more often lately ...

I get that, I do! But, seriously: I knew these terms within a day or two of first hearing them. And it's not like I've been hardcore serious about playing, either: I have just as much fun as any other beekeeper, and it could be argued that I have a little more fun than I really should be. Smile

Hmmm, lemme see if I can work on something ...

as someone who attended training, and needs alot of help on things like "swordway", i only play with you guys, and most of the time we play custom games on zanzibar (zombies or whatever) so i haven't had much practice playing 'real' hardcore games. i never play matchmade games without you guys, but that's not too often either. i guess i agree with thebruce, i like the comradarie and fun of playing with friends most of all, but i think that a bit more cohesion and coordination will increase that experience

however, those training sessions need work! krystyn, i respect your 'sk1llz' and really was listening to you before you got interrupted again and again. guys, if you're in training, PLEASE be mindfull of everyone else and don't all shoot at each other and blather on about nothing

now, that being said: wednesday's Headlong training WORKED for me! i was taught how to get the defense's ghost up to the offense's sniper rifle. the next night, a teammate (don't remember who) announced "i'm going for their sniper!" i replied from the ghost "i got your back!" we went up together, he ducked behind a wall and i took out the 3 dudes defending it with my cannons, and we took the weapon! so the training IS working already

Are we keeping all the tactical info in this thread, then? Or is there a new thread a-comin?

I imagine that a simple picture of the map with common routes and weapon locations would be helpful for those interested...
