Binary problem on Gamem8kers page

Hi, I was wondering if anyone else has seen the binary on Gamem8kers page?.... I could swear I saw something on here about it but search turned nothing up...

So anyways I remember seeing a post about it on the ourcolony forums before they went AWOL but that person only had 5 groups of 4 (at the time the link didn't work... now it does again maybe it was updated to what I found) whereas I found 16 groups of 4 or rather 8 groups of 8...

I've tried a bunch of things including converting to 8-bit ascii but I just got gibberish from that, I also tried converting to morse code where 0=. and 1=- and vice versa again gibberish (I even tried ROT and other ciphers on the results, again gibberish). Finally it hit me... and I tried converting the entire string from base2 to base10... and well I think it's a phone number!!

it gave me 777-5974
only problem with that is it doesn't have an area code... but the only clue as to location that is in those pictures is the pic with the sign for wrigley's field so I think that it's the same are code (312)
meaning that if I'm right then the number must be 312-777-5974
I tried a reverse lookup on that number and it seems like it's another mobile number (like the number from the whois info...)

I may be wrong but that's wha't I've found so far anyone else??[/b]

EDIT: that would be the same area code as in the WHOIS information also not to mention that the last riddle pointed to a chicago location makes me think that that's the right area. Anyone willing to try calling it?

It is 8bit ascii but you have to read the images from right to left I think. I can't remember exactly how to decrypt it but the message is:

well then... so much for all of that... (dammit!) Embarassed Embarassed

oh well...

[start optimism] maybe the message is meant to have double meaning[end optimism] like I said above... oh well so much for that

EDIT: I reversed the entire string (read everything from right to left, not only the pictures but the numbers too) and I got what's in the spoil box

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
next gen

oh well... so much time wasted for nothing... oh well at least it's damned clever...
anyways, anyone still want to bother some poor innocent person just to be sure i'm wrong?

I don't know if it's wasted time after all. I gave that number a call. I got a welcome message for the Intertel Voice Processing system and a prompt to enter the mailbox number to leave a message, or press the # key to enter someone's name. I wonder if, by "truth in numbers", he meant that somewhere on the site, among all the clues, there's a mailbox number that we can leave messages at (or log into?). For what purpose, I don't know.

Or maybe it's just a really strange coincidence.

numbers

the image files were in increments of 132, which is an anagram for the 312. mailbox could be 1391. this missing image file. (2cents)

Good idea.

I just tried that, but it didn't work. It's only accepting one digit mailbox numbers. I tried all digits except 0 and got "The number entered is not valid." I'm hesitant to go to the operator in case they have nothing to do with this. # leads to the directory listing where I can enter a name.

EDIT: Reverse lookup of the phone number yields this:
The phone number "(312) 777-5947" is a Chicago, IL based phone number and the registered carrier is Teleport Communications Group - Chicago. However, due to number portability, some numbers have been transferred to a new service provider other than the registered carrier.

I used the directory and tried to enter "Gamem8ker" as a name but got the mailbox for someone named Goldstein. I don't think this number is related.

Could it be an IP address? 0111 0110 = 118, 1010 0110 = 165 etc.
I guess since there are 16 images, it would be 2 IP addresses. Just a thought.

I translated it as numbers as well;

118
166
230
4
46
30
166
118

However I think the Next Gen message is all we're meant to get out of this.

I just saw the thread on the latest challenge and considering the fact that it's another chicago number... 312 area-code in particular... makes me think that there's a definite chicago connection... also the fact that it was a phone number makes me think that maybe the binary code is meant to work both ways too... who knows...

EDIT: I just tried to convert the number again however I used a different converter... and well I'm pretty sure now that this is a Red Herring because I kept getting MUCH higher numbers and when I tried converting 7775974 to binary it would work but it would only be the first 10 digits or something like that so the converter I used had a limit that I didn't know about... so sorry to have wasted your time
