[SOLVED] Castle list from SD Card {SD 1/email/wav & doc}

022205.wav

It's German, but it's really hard to understand. I'm not really the best at understanding spoken German so this is mostly not right, but possibly close Wink - anyone here a native speaker?

Here is the list you wanted

Hochsburg?

Eidenburg?
Luttesburg?

Das ist alles. Guten Tag. translation: That is all. Good day.

The list sounds like the list of castles mentioned in the email from the same date...

As you requested, I've attached a list of castles that you should definitely see during your visit. You didn't mention where you were staying initially so I did not put them in any particular order. You'll probably want to use a map to plan your route accordingly.

Enjoy our beautiful country!

Having had a quick look at a map of Europe, it seems that western Germany is about the right area - Lichtenstein and Heidelberg (probably what we are hearing as 'eidenberg', knowing those crazy Germans and their mad accents, or at least, Gunther's) are both in or the Baden-Württemburg region, which is south-west Germany, basically at the point that the German border meets both the Swiss and Austrian borders. Then there is Bentheim (north-west), and Beverungen (west. I can't find a 'luttesberg', though.

(Possible aside - Bentheim Castle is the title of a painting by Jacob van Ruisdael. Could this tie in with the art theme?)

Visiting castles was a hobby of mine during the few years I lived in Germany, so when I saw this, I decided to unlurk and contribute.

Ok, the list:
1. This is the only one I haven't a clue about. It sounds to me like "Hochsburg", but I can't find anything with that name. I guess it could be the Hofburg in Vienna, but it doesn't sound like it.
2. Büdingen http://www.buedingen.de/schloss/home.htm
3. Altenburg http://www.schloss-altenburg.de/
4. Lütisburg (I'm not 100% sure about this one.)
5. Liechtenstein (This is unrelated to the country of the same name. Instead, it's a castle located just SW of Vienna in Maria-Enzersdorf.) http://www.burgliechtenstein.at/default.shtm
6. Bentheim http://www.burg-bentheim.de/
7. Beverungen (no official URL)
8. Burg Desenberg (located near Warburg, no official URL)
9. Vischering (located near Lüdinghausen) http://www.burgvischering.de/

The message recommends plotting them on a map, so I've done that. (Map taken from the very useful CIA Factbook.) I was hoping that connecting the dots would result in something recognizable, but no such luck.

The following names are spoken in a German accent as a sound file in the
folder. The voice is obviously an inferior text to voice program and
not a real human voice.

Rochsburg
Budingen
Altenburg
Lutetsburg
Lichtenstein
Bentheim
Beverungen
Burgk
Desenberg
Vishering

The Solution

As hinted at by the subject line (first letters spell out "state") the
key is in listing the German states that these castles are located in.

Saxony
Hesse
Bavaria
Lower Saxony
Baden
Lower Saxony
North Rhine
Thuringia
North Rhine
North Rhine

A quick perusal shows that the words seven and shine appear diagonally
in the grouping.

bdoc.pdf in "my business" folder is unlocked by "seven"

bdoc2.pdf in "my business" folder is unlocked by "shine"

I'm glad we had Anthrax to crack it, because it would've taken us ages to figure that one out!

Yes. That would have been very difficult. (My list was correct, nonetheless! Very Happy)
