I got the error a lot, eventually got registered for the ARGologists.

I think they're just under a lot of traffic today, hopefully it won't last.

Anyone have an overview of things like when new puzzles appear?

Three hours later at 18.00 PST, Microsoft will kick off its own event in downtown Los Angeles, where it is expected to finally take the wraps off the next-generation Xbox, currently known only by its development codename Xenon.

The scheduling is threatening a headache for media and industry types who need to attend both events, since if the Sony event runs on for a while it could be quite tough to get from Culver City back into downtown LA in time for the 6pm kick-off with Microsoft.

New's from all of MS's Industry Partners about the Next-Gen Xbox
Sorry for the long post but most of it is in the quotes down below the main article.

From MICROSOFT:

Microsoft wrote:

REDMOND, Wash. -- April 8, 2005 -- Microsoft Corp. today unveiled its all-star lineup of award-winning publishers committed to making the leap into the HD Era on Microsoft's next-generation Xbox® platform.

The future Xbox will deliver on the company's vision of the HD Era -- an era fueled by consumer demand for experiences that are always connected, always personalized and always high-definition -- through the amazing clarity of high-definition graphics, extraordinary benefits of constant connectedness and exceptional personalization abilities. To help make this a reality, Microsoft has assembled some of the most powerful publishers to drive the industry into the high-definition gaming revolution. Together, these publishers have sold more than half a billion copies of current-generation Xbox console video games worldwide and represent approximately 70 percent of all current-generation console games sold in 2004.*

"The key to bringing the vision for the HD Era of gaming to life is our partners: world-class publishers and developers that have molded and shaped the history of interactive entertainment for tens of millions of gamers worldwide," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of Xbox global content and marketing at Microsoft. "This stellar lineup of publishers and developers is poised to deliver games experiences our customers only dreamed were possible, and is ultimately committed to elevating video games to be the No. 1 form of entertainment."

Publishing heavyweights such as 2KGames, Activision Inc., Atari Inc., Bandai Co. Ltd., Bethesda Softworks LLC, Buena Vista Games Inc., Capcom Co. Ltd., Codemasters Software Company Ltd., Eidos Inc., Electronic Arts Inc., FromSoftware Inc., InterServ International, KOEI Co. Ltd., Konami Corp., LucasArts, Majesco Entertainment, Midway Games Inc., Namco Ltd., Phantagram Co. Ltd., Rockstar Games, SCi Games Ltd., SEGA, Tecmo Ltd., THQ Inc., TWP Corp., Ubisoft Entertainment, Vivendi Universal Games Inc. and Webzen Inc. have committed their support for Microsoft's innovative vision for the future of high-definition gaming.

These premier publishers join Microsoft Game Studios, whose stable of game developers will bring exclusive content to the next-generation Xbox platform. These developers include BioWare Corp., Bizarre Creations Ltd., Bungie Studios, Epic Games Inc., FASA Studio, Lionhead Studios Ltd., Rare Ltd., as well as newcomers Yoshiki Okamoto's Game Republic Inc., Hironobu Sakaguchi's Mistwalker and Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Q Entertainment Inc.

The next-generation Xbox titles will provide exhilarating entertainment experiences that will drive the HD Era. Gamers can expect technological advancements such as multichannel audio fidelity that will plunge them into a world so realistic, even the faintest enemy footsteps can be heard. These advancements will be fueled by richer online communication and by an abundance of on-demand content delivered by the Microsoft® Xbox Live (TM) service.

In addition, Microsoft is fully committed to this generation, and gamers can expect an amazing pipeline of titles into 2007. This year alone, Xbox publishers and developers will deliver more than 200 games to the platform. Since its launch, Xbox has sold 20 million consoles worldwide, and is expected to sell millions more.

This unified show of commitment from the leaders of the publishing industry underlines their belief in the Xbox vision of how hardware, software and services can be fused to power next-generation gaming and entertainment experiences.

Great news, Grifter! I'm glad to see so many names there! Specially Konami, Namco and Capcom. I missed more support from these companies on the xbox! Although Konami did release Winning Eleven 8 (without Live! Cursing ) and Silent Hill 4 (but not SH3 Bang Head ).

Don't poop your pants, but check out these rumors from SPOnG.com:

SPOnG wrote:

More rumours are doing the rounds today regarding the specifications and software delivery methods of Microsoft's Xbox 360 console. Hard disk size is currently being touted as around the 40 gig mark – which seems fairly large but not staggering, though this will be subject to change as costs are juggled before the device goes into production late this summer. The machine is said to feature two video outs, one of which can be connected to a monitor, and will not, allegedly, be backwards compatible. It's also being suggested that purchase via download is going to be offered, with games bought in this way sold earlier and cheaper to sweeten the deal.

And speaking of games on the HDD, the new console with be sold with Halo 2 pre-installed on the console, obviously beautified to make the most of the system's power. To accompany this, there are rumours that features cut from Halo 2 such as online co-operative play and the Ark level are being held back for inclusion in a new Halo game, though whether this is as part of the Halo 2 rehash or an all-new Halo 3 is unclear.

This isn't all, though. There's also talk of a 120 gig add-on hard drive for the new Xbox which comes pre-loaded with software. Gamers will be able to use this to take saved data around their friends' houses, or if we don't go round to each others' houses in the future, we can just use it to customise the online experience. There have already been suggestions that this hard drive, promised to be sleek and fashionable, will in fact be a pre-requisite for online play.

Speaking recently about the recently-named next-gen console, MS guru J Allard hinted that there would be something for Halo fans on the 360, but declined to comment on backwards compatibility. We'd like to stress that all of the above is nothing but rumour at the moment. Check back here at SPOnG for more news confirming or denying this intriguing information.

TONS of news today.

From Forbes.com
Forbes.com wrote:
Goldman Sachs said it confirmed with Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) that the company is unlikely to discontinue production of the Xbox videogame console with the launch of Xbox 2. Microsoft will provide a sneak peek of the Xbox 2 console on a television special on May 12 on MTV in North America and on May 13 internationally. "We had expected Xbox 2 to shown for the first time at the E3 videogaming conference in Los Angeles (May 17-20, 2005)," Goldman said. "This appears to be a tactical effort to show Xbox 2 before Sony (nyse: SNE - news - people ) demonstrates the PS3 [PlayStation 3 videogame console] at E3." The research firm, which rates Microsoft at "outperform," expects Xbox 2 to be available for retail sale in October or November at a retail price of about $249 to $299. Goldman said the Xbox console would cater to the lower-end of the consumer segment. The firm expects Microsoft to ship about 3 million units of the Xbox 2 worldwide in the December quarter. Sony is expected to debut the PS3 at E3, "although the product is not expected to be available in the U.S. until mid-2006 (perhaps a Japan launch in the fourth quarter of 2005 although more likely in the first quarter of 2006)," Goldman said.

We can't divulge the source of this information (what else is new?), but we've learned that Microsoft is going to be teaming up with Pepsi for a major promotion this fall in which they'll be giving away over 9,000 Xbox 2/Xbox 360 consoles in the weeks ahead of the next-gen console's official release. The contest will use an under-the-cap registration method (much like Pepsi did before with those iTunes giveaways), and supposedly they'll be giving away one console every ten minutes, 24 hours a day, for nine weeks straight.

British sources have confirmed that the next generation Xbox is indeed called Xbox 360, that the logo is a simple, round nexus, and that the console itself has a concave design. And it's white. Maybe.

Many rumours have been circulating in the past months regarding Microsoft's next generation system, but let us now lay them all the rest. The name of Xbox's successor is Xbox 360, we can confirm, and the design of the machine is indeed a concave shape.

Speaking under conditions of strict anonymity, a British source privy to Microsoft's marketing documents has today confirmed the machine's name and previously rumoured details of the actual design.

The machine can stand upright and hollows in at the middle, like it's "sucking in its cheeks," our source told us today. Previous rumours had put the console as silver, although fresh information says the final design may be white. It's impossible to tell from the documents, the source went on to say.

According to the source, the rumoured slot for the hard drive - which was apparently at the top of the machine - is not obvious on the document, and the person was unable to clarify where the slot for discs actually appeared.

The logo is described as a simple, round nexus with "Xbox 360" written inside it. Previous rumours had simply the numbers "360" in the disc.

Microsoft will show the console for the first time in a half-hour special on MTV on May 12, a week ahead of E3. The company's press conference, on Monday, May 16, will be the first viewing of the console to the trade en bloc.

Xbox 360 is expected to receive a global release in late 2005.

When contacted today, Microsoft simply said that it does not comment on rumours and speculation relating to next generation product.

These Pictures of the Xbox 360 Controller Prototype surfaced on TeamXbox.com. These might be fake, but I thought I'd share to get people's reaction.

Hrm, not necessarily liking those controllers.

Too much empty space on them... And if they're going with that design, why not just do what Sony did and make them replicas of the XBox controllers? That way those of us with extra XBox controllers can use them in both locations.

During our continuing development with the Xenon (Xbox 360) we noticed some interesting information in the latest docs - most notibly about the memory.

Quote:

The Xenon retail console will include 512 MB of UMA system memory. This is eight times the amount of memory that was available in the Xbox. The Xenon system software will still reserve six percent (32 MB) of total memory for system components, such as the visible features of the Xenon HUD, as well as the non-visible background system tasks.

Everything we have supports the Beta Hardware that will be shown at E3 - we hope to be able to support the Xbox's massive homebrew community well into the next few years - after all it's that same community that has helped to shape the Xbox's great success.

Well, it looks like I'm going to be buying a LOT of Pepsi this year.

Giving away >9,000 consoles?! That's a lot of money lost methinks. Although an absolutely HUGE publicity stunt.

I could see maybe 200-300 consoles being given away, but >9,000 seems a little over the top.

Edit: I feel I have to edit this after reading this at Gamespot.com:

gamespot.com wrote:
Regardless, while wild-sounding, a next-gen Xbox giveaway is feasible, given Microsoft's deep pockets (can you say "$50 billion in the bank"?) and its desire to dominate the next generation of console gaming. It also wouldn't be without precedent: In his keynote address at this year's Game Developers Conference, Microsoft corporate vice president J Allard handed out more than 1,000 Samsung HDTVs to curry favor with the game makers in attendance.
