The only difference that I see between the (possible) original and the one hosted at OC is that the OC one is darker and is missing the "SCIENCEphotoLIBRARY" (SpL) text at the bottom right.

I can't see any numbers or anything else hidden in the image. I believe that it could've come from a different source (a print possibly), due to the fact that on the SpL site it says that prints come without the SpL text.

Edit: Looking closer, I do see that the 'scratch' on the OC version is not on the original. (the scratch starts at the bottom left corner of the 'mushroom head')

That looks like a hair got on the scanner with the picture.

It looks like the "scratch" is there, we just can't see it.
