Maybe there could be some differences between our cube and theirs which could be interesting if we return the wrong one...?

If Ceretin is an herbal thing, like Stacker2 (a metbolic enhancer?) then the FDA wouldn't need to evaluate it. If the product isn't ready to be sold as yet, this being just the pre-marketing to their traget consumer, then not linking to a site makes perfect sense. There wouldn't be anything to link to, or anything for us to buy yet.

Okay, anyone got anything about Laboratorios Novamed - just found a link between them and ceretin (the excel file at the end of google's search for ceretin) - I realise this has probably been done to death etc, but maybe a name to keep in mind?

Agreed. There are no drugs known (on the market or in testing) that significantly enhance cognitive function.
Perhaps not proven to have statistically significant effects (particularly in humans), but there certainly is research being conducted.
Here's a link to a story:

Dr. Kandel actually gave a talk a couple of months ago here where I live on memory and the potential for cognitive enhancers.

Hah! nice one Jeb!
I think it's a list of Pharmacutical patents pending in Venezuala, and NovaMed comes up as a Biomed company: "NovaMed is committed to partnering with physicians to deliver the highest quality outpatient surgery services. We focus on acquiring, developing and managing ambulatory surgery centers throughout the continental US."...according to their website
...funny they should be seeking a patent in South America for something called Ceretin, tho innit?
...but definitely OOG IMHO

Thanks for the link. Interesting reading, and certainly substantiates that research is being conducted. I didn't mean to imply that there never would be an intelligence enhancer, just that there are none at the moment (and really still none in the offing, as all the substances in the article talk about attention focus or alertness, etc. not intelligence).
The article does state that "cognitive enhancers merely improve the working of the brain: (...) No single pill will make you a genius...
This is why the Chess world (at least the players) are against drug testing in that "sport".

I wanted to thank you for your fine coverage of the scandal around that cheater Nuru. We are trying to convey a vital message to our children, that illicit cognitive enhancement is wrong. You are doing a fine service to our society by showing us the consequences of his misdeeds, and by extension, all who would try to gain advantage by immoral means. By all means keep up your excellent work.
Ceretin?

Don't think that letter would be at all positive if the Sentinel was full of ads for the drug in question...there must be more hardcore enhancers and Ceretin is two cans of red bull, or a handful of pro plus!

I was thinking ceratin sounds like serotonin, which dictionary.com defines as

An organic compound, C10H12N2O, formed from tryptophan and found in animal and human tissue, especially the brain, blood serum, and gastric mucous membranes, and active as a neurotransmitter and in vasoconstriction, stimulation of the smooth muscles, and regulation of cyclic body processes.
Sounds like the kind of thing that might help you "stay sharp", no?
So, it's likely one of those cognition enhancers. I'd guess that either its a low-powered legal enhancer, or its legal for the general populace, but competitors in the brain games (mentaletes?) swear not to use it or analogues.
Ok, since this is a spec thread:
I don't think ceretin is going to be JUST a cognitive enhancer... I think ceretin is what gatehouse security was scanning for.
From the pregame primer:
Quote:
Marrec took a look at spacer.gif and found this directory. Now things are getting interesting!
There are a couple of logs taken at something called GATEHOUSE 24 (here and here). I think what we are meant to derive from those is that: a) anyone passing through gate 24 has their badges, biometrics and emotional states scanned; b) the logs may contain useful snippets of conversations (for example, we learn that the two Lings are siblings).
emotional states scanned?
I think ceretin is a type of VeriChip or GPS (or possibly UniversalPS)locator with the ability to stimulate or transmit "happiness" to your brain.

So maybe the parcel will contain a free sample of Ceretin? How exactly would the FDA (or the UK equivalent) handle that when 333 people start having seizures and explosive diarrhea? Or maybe the drug will make everyone really smart and they'll start looking into insignificant details even harder. Oh man, that'd be even worse. I shouldn't say such horrible things. Better just hope for the explosive diarrhea.
While we're making some really wild speculations, here's one I thought of last night (not sure if anyone else has said this, but if we're going to make wild guesses about Ceretin why not?). You know how there are a bunch of references to MC, and according to the primer we've just assumed it means mission control or whatever? Well MC is the financial symbol for Matsushita Electric Industrial, better known as Panasonic. Maybe they're the sponsors for this whole thing!
