[SOLVED] Chris Applegate Login

Mary's latest post is obviously telling us to look in Chris' files. (Not to mention her previous post - no wonder Chris is frustrated Smile)

He says Beth's music is the key.

I tried the obvious (Chorus, Chorus.gif, Chorus.mp3). Then I thought about how he mentioned "key." The piece starts out in the key of E flat, then changes to D flat at the end. So I tried:

Eb
Db
Eflat
Dflat
EFlat
DFlat
eflatdflat
EflatDflat
EFlatDFlat
EFLATDFLAT
EbDb

None of which worked. I'm out of ideas for the moment. Anyone?

Edit: marked "solved"

Strictly speaking, its E Flat Major and D Flat Major, but they don't seem to work in any combination either.

About the email Wandering_Angela received...

..[snip].. Both a key of Chris internally and a music. And a word. Both first of both a word.

sounds like she's giving a clue to Chris' account that we've been told to open.

Sorry if it's old news...

I guess this maybe tells us that the key is a word - so is not likely to be D Flat or anything like that.

But what word? "Both first and both a word" sounds like the main bit of the clue, but I'm completely stuck.

I'm sure we should have enough information to guess - but I think we're going to need another clue!

Okay

So, I've been sick lately... what else is new? Anyway, I've been looking over the posts and I have to say "HUH?". I've been racking my brain to figure this thing out and I think I might have an idea.

Quoting the letter "Both a key to Chris internally and a music" (not sure if that's completely right, but you get the picture). I think that it means that the word is both "a key to Chris internally" and "a type of music"... which I believe to be "soul" (the key to your soul... soul music).

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that one out there. See what you might think. Still figuring the rest of it though.

Thanks Wandering_Angela Very Happy (I'd tried it before, but thought the message started Oh my God...)

Heres a transcipt of the first file : bbox_208302251827.mp3

Quote:
Jacob: Hey. HEY!
Simon: What?
Jacob: Can we calm it down a bit here? I think I broke one of the hydraulic pressurised manipulators when I got near those rocks.
Simon: The what? What d'you break?
Jacob: The grabby arms on the front.
Simon: Oh. Hope you have some money put away those things aren't cheap. There it is.
Jacob: You're joking right? It's totally surrounded by other stuff. How are we supposed to get to it?
Simon: Very carefully. Just get in there without destroying any other parts of that ship. I doubt a materials grunt like you gets paid too much.
Jacob: Materials grunt? I'll have you know I'm a full member of the Ares Station Research Staff
Simon: Who gets samples from the samples room and carries them up for analysis
Jacob: (under his breath) Son of a ... stupid grunt
Simon: Huh huh. Just don't act so high and mighty. Look, I do the same thing. I pick up rocks and throw them at other rocks. Same principle.
Jacob: I guess...
Simon: So what's your crazy plan this time anyway?
Jacob: What? You must be breaking up. I can't hear you!
Simon: You might as well just tell me. I'm not gonna just trust that you're not leading me on something that isn't dangerous. I'm not participating in another Schwarzschild project.
Jacob: Why does everyone keep bringing that up. It would have worked.
Simon: It would have killed everyone on the station. That's what Cohen said.
Jacob: What does he know? He's just a suit and he doesn't even look good in it. Hey - watch where you're throwing that crap, one of those things nearly hit me!
Simon: Sorry. So what is it?
Jacob: Alright, listen to this [Plays Static]
Simon: Static. You want me to hear static?
Jacob: Can't you hear those pings?
Simon: Well, I can't hear anything.
Jacob: Look, it's really weak but I think it's coming from that big rock over there. We're gonna go check it out, alright?
Simon: Whatever. Just get on the other side of that rock and hold it in place
Jacob: Alright. I'm almost there. I just reach out... Oh Dammit. I really did hurt one of the arms. I can only grab the rock with two.
Simon: Can you still get a good grip?
Jacob: Yeh, I think so. Where are you?
Simon: On the other side. I'm almost in position so hold it steady.
Jacob: Alright, I've got two on it. It's starting to move!
Simon: You must have bumped it. Stop it from spinning.
Jacob: I'm trying! I can't... How's it moving so fast! I didn't hit it that hard! Dammit!
Simon: Now what?
Jacob: One of the grabbers came loose. I'm going to have to let it go.
Simon: Well don't let go! You'll go spinning off and slam into one of the other asteroids. Just stabilise it.
Jacob: I can't. My thrusters just aren't enough. I can't work out how to add more power to them. This piece of junk is gonna kill me! Help me!!
Simon: I just told you, I can't
Jacob: I'm useless in this thing! Why did I even come out here? Oh, Molly, it's
Simon: Ha Ha Ha!!
Jacob: Stop it. You're already attached.
Simon: I sure was!
Jacob: You ass. You could have gotten me killed.
Simon: Oh, I doubt that.
Jacob: I'm going to write you up when I get back.
Simon: <sarcastic> Ohh Nooo! They'll dock me, what, one trip? It'll be worth it to broadcast you yelling "I'm useless" at the top of you're lungs! Everyone's going to get a kick out of that
Jacob: No. No they won't
Simon: Sure they will. Now hold it steady this time alright, I'm going to start drilling.
[sound of drill]
Jacob: I should just leave you here.
Simon: Oh, leaving your partner? No-one will take you out after that, that's for sure. Oh, maybe Molly will take you on pity after that outburst.
Jacob: Shutup.
Simon: Hey steady. I said steady. This is important work here boy, not like you're little beeps.
Jacob: It can't be that important if you're using it to make fun of me.
Simon: Oh it is, more than you know. But putting you in your place is just as important. We're all tired of you, especially Molly.
Jacob: She wouldn't be
Simon: She won't be impressed by your radio static. Just as she wasn't impressed by your "improvements" to her rig.
Jacob: I felt for sure that would have made her ship more fuel efficient. I didn't expect it to overload her manoeuvering thrusters. And besides, I wasn't doing that to impress her, I just wanted to help. And anyway...
Simon: Just shutup a minute would ya? Alright, computer, analyse that sample would you?
Computer: Please wait. Scanning.
Simon: <whistles>
Computer: Analysis complete. Core consists of: 90% Iron, 5% Copper, 2% of unknown material, 3%...
Simon: Show me what that unknown material looks like. Ahh, you magnificent bastard. You were right. Mark this asteroid as mine.
Computer: Acknowledged
Simon: Hey, Jones, you still there?
Jacob: Yeh
Simon: Alright, disengage and head towards that big stone of yours. Lets take a look.

Second one to come in a bit

Part Two

bbox_208302251853.mp3

Quote:
Simon: <whistle> Well, I'll give you this, it's big.
Jacob: I'm not doing this to impress anyone
Simon: Not even Molly?
Jacob: What if I was? Is it so bad to try and impress a girl?
Simon: Only when it's you and your ideas nearly killing us all. OK, we've seen you're big rock, let's get back.
Jacob: Hey, just a minute. Just a minute! Listen to this
[Static - now with more obvious pulses]
Jacob: Hear that, it's stronger now.
Simon: Uh, that's just background noise. Why is that thing only rotating on one axis? I've never seen an asteroid that flat before.
Jacob: Hey, did you see that? I think I see...
Simon: It's just a rock formation in the centre. Those things happen all the time.
Jacob: I don't think that's a rock formation.
Simon: You're seeing things.
Jacob: No... I'm pretty sure I'm not.
Simon: Stay there, I'm coming over. This had better be good. Is that what I think it is?
Jacob: Looks like a really big antenna. And Listen
[loud pulses]
Simon: That's... different.
Jacob: Yeh, but if I pull back
[back to quieter pulses again]
Simon: Uh, the first Mars team must have put it there.
Jacob: There's an opening on the side. I'm going down.
Simon: You idiot! We have to get back and tell the station about this. Get them to call in the military or something.
Jacob: No.No, I'm not going to let someone else horn in on this. This is mine. Hell - it's ours! I'm just going to go take a look
Simon: You're going outside? What are you. nuts?
Jacob: Stop hovering along in little circles up there, you're going to make me nervous.
Simon: You should be! Don't get out!
Jacob: Look, stop worrying. I'm going to be tethered to my ship. I just want to see if it's really a door.
Simon: And if it is?
Jacob: Then I'll come back. I thought you miner types were supposed to be tough as nails? There, I'm out - and tethered. Now, let's see what we got here.
Simon: You'd better not have anything happen to you. I am NOT going to land on that thing.
Jacob: I'm there. Wow. This metals polished smooth. I don't think this is the work of the last group up to Mars. Someone else made it.
Simon: OK, OK. Now just get back in your ship and lets just...
Jacob: No. I want to look inside first.
Simon: Don't go inside!
Jacob: It's a vehicle. This definitely wasn't made by humans
Simon: Jacob!
Jacob: What?
Simon: The door! It's closing!
Jacob: Hey - hey don't shut that I was just going....
[pulses stopped]
Simon: They cut his line. Oh No. I'm not seeing this. <deep breaths> Camera, camera. Oh come on, where did I move that control. It's gone. Where did it go, I could see his ship. Dammit. The frequencies gotta record some of this. There's no more antenna. There's no more pulses. Shit. What am I gonna tell them back at the station?

Things to note. The pulses in the static sound like Dr Park's Pulsar (which is funny of course, since he said in his blog "Pulsars were once believed to be signals from interstellar sentient life before they were revealed to be stars."

But unfortunately, this all happened before he started - so we can't ask him about an interruption in the signal. We COULD ask him how he's so sure the pulses come from a distant pulsar - but based on past performance, I don't think he'll believe any of this.

Also, Simon doesn't seem so bad. He's clearly now trying to cover his ass, but I think if we can offer him a way out, he'll help.

And who's Molly?! I wouldn't be at all surprised to find Jacob's password revolves around her...

I've gotten a reply from Simon, after I asked him to help get Jacob free.
I explained it already in this thread: http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9756

For info:
Quote:
The Schwarzschild black hole is the simplest form of black hole. It has one "event horizon" within it nothing, including light, can escape. This type of black hole, no spin and no charge, is not likely to exist. One particular property of this black hole is that it has a connection, called the Einstein-Rosen bridge or wormhole, connects this universe with another universe. The problem is that you can not use this kind of wormhole to travel because whatever enters beyond the event horizon can travel only in one direction heading toward the singularity and be annihilated.

So I guess if Jacob had wanted to use it for time travel, it wouldn't have worked...

I looked up the name 'Molly' and it's a diminutive of 'Mary'... is this likely to be Mary Haynes?

Although he talks about making adjustments to her rig

and I don't recall Mary having been out at all...

Perhaps the Schwarzchild project created a gateway akin to what the Star People (see Star People thread) distributed. Maybe the project was successful in that it brought the Star People, or the Merzkeen, or whomever into Ares Station.

Oooh - good spec! I like it. That would start to pull this whole thing together.

Although I'm still not sure how the apes fit in.

didn't Jacob make it sound like Schwarzchild project never even got to be tested or anything?

I got the feeling that they "pulled the plug" on his project before he could try it.

I like your idea though, you might be right... it would answer a lot.
