Hmmm...
Anyone know where one might buy or hire Big, Extra-Terrestial, Slimey Monsters and Elder Gods? Outer Gods and Mad Cults are also of interest. Reply to 1-800-ETERNALMADNESS
God; I would just love playing that. However, one slight problems exists - it's kid of hard to warp reality without Black Powers and knowledge about the Mythos?

Nah, it's all smoke and mirrors. Really. I mean, really. *looks around nervously* None of it is real. I swear. Everything is norma....OH GOD WHAT IS THAT THING?!
Though really, I think that Cthulhu would work best as a small scale local arg.

Hmm. Local ARG?
I think that depends on how you design it, as always...
But it just screams "IRL-Events" all over it, doesn't it?

IRL-events? Like.. evil monsters coming for real?
The evil city outside of Arkham (or is the slums of Arkham?) kind of reminds me of Juneau, Alaska, where I live.
I had actually considered PMing a Cthulu ARG. Then I found out ARGs take work. Screw that!

cool premise.. i believe there are tales floating around, urban myths, in a lovecraftian style, of an electronic version of yog-sothoth, which when downloaded lets you stare into the eyes of doom itself....
but that's beside the point,
*firefox mutters something about everything become trendy today...

Firefox; Can you remember where you heard that? I've heard rumours about it, and would love to check it out...
IRL-Events as in "Players venture forth to the strange caves, guided by their friends online in a chat with "Insert-Strange-Entity-Here" and goes down into the darkness and madness..."

Either there are many followers of Lovecraft or the site that has been referred to (http://www.cthulhulives.org/whatisitintro.html ) is not working properly,
since I'm getting a time-out error.

I have a copy of "Cthulu 2000", an anthology, ISBn 0-345-42203-1, if that's what you're referring to.

Local ARG?
Hmm - I wonder if it's possible to draw a line between a local ARG, and a LARP (live action role-playing game) or if they just start to merge into the same thing.
It seems that Cthulhu lives isn't so much a classic ARG, as an aforementioned LARP.
The difference being, in my mind, one of scope and availability.
ARGs have a wide, public audience, where as most RPGs (LARPs included) have a somewhat more private audience taking part int the world.
ARGs also do their best to blur the line between in-game and out-of-game, but RPGs seem to have a pretty obvious and defined line between the two worlds.
Which may be what the difference between a LARP and an ARG is, but my sense is that an local ARG/LARP is where the two genre's start to move in the other's direction.

Cthulhu Lives! is not an ARG. it's a LARP.
Although.. I know a few people who are steeped down enough inside the mythos to be able to create an ARG proper out of it.. Stay tuned.
