I am grateful for any trend away from animated emoticons. I also like the realistic look of the fish combined with the traditional cartoony faces. Two thumbs up!

What we SHOULD do is create a flame icon.* And since no self-respecting person would actually USE the flame, then we know that whoever uses it is NOT one of us, and we proceed to delete that person's account, track them via their IP address to their home/school/work/library/spaceship and then throw REAL trout at them, all the while pointing, laughing, and shaking our fists. (I'd like to see the animated icon that goes through all of those steps, by the way... that would be classic!) I think that would show how much we don't tolerate people who are intolerant. Not to mention, we really need more of these very meaningful icons.
(for example, this is a jetpack wearing-smiley, referring to global peace. And the pony, referring to hemorrhagic diseases)

Carrot Top's masseuse? That's just cruel! There have to be laws against such things.

Trout's true origins are from mIRC. the /slap command would slap a user with a large trout.
Cloudmakers must've taken that allready largely popular trout concept, and gave it the context of meaning "Sorry buddy, that's been said and done before". For some reason that context just makes some kind of strange sence.

I do believe the very first page of this thread explains that.
Along with a link to the glossary.

I was trouted on my second ever post.
This was two days after Phaedra's first post, I think, and I was yet to get into many of the wonderful
arguments
discussions we had over on the ILB Spec boards.. which went so far away from Halo it wasn't funny...
.. anyway, the point of my story, if I did actually have one, was that when I was trouted, I was given an explanation for why, and I learnt my lesson reasonably quickly. Aside from the times I intentionally trouted myself just for emphasis. And got deservedly thwacked for it..
