For the shared calendar to be a supporting argument for this bit of spec, PC would have to be established sometime after the move to the gregorian calendar. Google tells me this happened in 1582 for the earliest adopters. Not sure where this fits in with the possible timelines though...

why should they be using the gregorian calendar?

SPEC

The British Parliament changed the calendar from the old style to the new, the one used today, and changed the date of September 3rd, 1752 (old calendar) to September 14, 1752 (new calendar) thus dropping eleven days.

i.e 11 days different

Julian or Old Style ---- Gregorian or New Style

our star signs generally change on or about the 20/21 of each month
perplexian star signs change about 11 days earlier

maybe the perplexians are using a calender based on the old style julian calender

Maybe the issue of overpopulation and overdevelopment is a clue to where Perplex City is. The Northside development suggests that living space is at a premium -- but why should it be? We've heard nothing about the actual size of Perplex City, except that it's relatively large. Why not continue to build outward? Maybe because they can't build outward anymore, there may be an actual limit to how far you can build (due to some sort of natural barrier). I suppose it could also be an issue of territory. The Sentinel has reported that Perplex City has a defense force, which suggests that rival cities exist.

Yes, I'm veering a bit OT here, but it's something to take into consideration.

Remember DInah . . .
"Taversen also brought the academy to the attention of many other wealthy and important people across the country"

I noticed a "Caldera Drive" and the height of the Ascendancy Point and thought they lived on an island like Japan, volcanic and tight for space. I emailed Scarlett and she auto-responded.

I do like the theory that PC's on a space-tight island...

[SPEC] I'd thought it was possibly a matter of perplexians taking nature and conservation very seriously - a green belt (declared some years ago, when the present overcrowding problems weren't expected) starts at what is now the city's edge. They've built as high as is feasible and/or desirable and now people are calling for construction into the green belt, such as the Northside region.[/SPEC]
