[Puzzle/Info] April 19th Summary

The following picture has been presented and gamem8ker needs a solution. As of yet we do not know what the answer is, and have not achieved a concrete lead.

Things that have been pointed out thus far:

-->The photoshopped link near the moniter (www.kristenrutherford.com) has been deemed a deviation from the correct answer, because it is too obvious.

-->The scrambled words have been kinda analyzed and nothing conclusive has been found otherthan "gamefind", and someone came up with the website: www.gamefiind.co.uk

--> There are a lot of refrences to the Chicago Area and specifically the White Sox

--> As for May 12th on the calander, they did not have a game.

--> There is an "Obey Giant" sticker on the moniter which leads to: www.obeygiant.com, and no leads have been found from this.

--> It has been noted that a lot of things have been photoshopped: the black block on the calander, the area behind the flowers, the note on the bottle, and the word scramble.

--> The reflection in the moniter appears to be the guy that took the picture and maybe some office furniture

--> The "Casper" ghost is really BooBerry and the "transformer" is really VOLTRON

These are the MAIN points that have been discussed so far, sorry if I missed any.

Just about Obey Giant, this was a name for Andre the Giant's sticker campaign back in the 80s.

http://www.rotten.com/library/bio/sports/andre-the-giant/

Scroll down to the bottom there and see an old version of the picture, but obviously the same thing. This could relate to the Legends of Wrestling games. These were made by Acclaim, who also made All Star Baseball 2003.

This is the best lead I've found.

I've thrown the word search into a Boggle/Tangleword solver. I limited the size of each word to a minimum of 4 letters. It's gone over the board and generated a list of words it found. Here is the address to the solution.

Here is a list of the words alphabetically.

You got it.

Maybe someone wants to go through the letters and find all those words, then see what sections didn't get use and come up with something out of that. To me that seems like grasping at straws.

There are 81 letters incase anyone was wondering. However not all the letters of the alphabet are used in this puzzle.

Game and Gamer show up along with colony. Game find or game finder seem to be the most obvious of the words. It may be useful to look for words we know are associated with the game in this list.

If I had to guess at a direction, we are looking for a game that deals with the items/objects/themes on the desk.

Oh and before I slip off to bed, the etoys sticker looks to be photoshoped on. The right side of it seems blury. I'm guessing it's not even a sticker.

the calandar in the pic is for 2004, not 2003. the white sox had a game scheduled for 5/12 vs. the baltimore orioles, but it was rained out and played in a double header the next day.

as for boggle solutions, i started with "colony" in the upper right. from there, you can make a bunch of funny sentences all in order, such as "my colony is lasering federal bases" or "telco capital by colony". i also found a bunch of random phrases that seemed hardly coincidental, such as "rss feed" beneath the e in game. but in the end i couldn't take them anywhere. i'm guessing this is not a fruitful avenue to search.

on a whim, i went down the capital path, because there are a bunch of letters near by that seem to allude to "capital by my colony". the capital of illinois is springfield, and they have a baseball team called the springfield capitals. again, not much fruit to be had.

photoshop notes

I am 100% certain the following areas have been altered:
1. the alphabet soup and the wall above and below it. There used to be something white (see poorly extracted flowers) there.
2. the url "fortune", and the white paper to it's left. The color on the paper is perfectly flat - it was painted on.
3. The bottom of the calendar

Beyond that, however, I can't find anything that appears to be altered. The levels and chroma noise match up on everything else that looked at all like it might be fake (including the monitor's eToys sticker and orage flag).

The image appears to be at capture resolution, as I don't see any secondary jpeg artifacts like I did with the previous puzzle.

Well, can anything like this be de-Photoshopped? gotten back to the pick before it was altered, "reveal" the "truth" as it were? I don't know jack about Photoshop, someone tell me if it's possible to remove the altered areas and see what lies underneath.

I dont think its possible, once a jpeg has been saved then thats all it is. Its like trying to extract the ingredients out of a cake.

Ar eyou guys telling me that Yay! is not behind this? I kind of figured that they (you) must have submitted it since 1. there's the kristen Rutherford reference, 2. it's well put together and complictated and 3. Yay! is now int he lead.

So, I have no idea how to solve it, but good one, guys!

Ok, I decided to check into the Obey Giant sticker and if you go to www.obeygiant.com there is a message that says:
Quote:
The OBEY sticker campaign can be explained as an experiment in Phenomenology. Heidegger describes Phenomenology as "the process of letting things manifest themselves." Phenomenology attempts to enable people to see clearly something that is right before their eyes but obscured; things that are so taken for granted that they are muted by abstract observation.

So...maybe the answer is right there and we're looking too deep, i dunno.[/quote]
