I heard there's a new map called Gigantor Warren 3, Clayfoot. The downloadable file is hidden in your backyard.

I think they said there'll be different playlists for the new Maps. So if we're playing on those playlists, yes, you won't be able to join us. When the maps become free, those playlists will be phased out and incorporated on the regular playlists. You obviously won't be able to play on Custom Games on those maps. Can I ask you why you don't want to buy them? Don't feel it's worth/necessary?

The new maps aren't entering matchmaking for a while yet, they're only playable in the custom games. So it won't affect you too much to begin with.

Oooo Ooooo I can answer this one. It's because he (like myself) is CHEAP!
To be honest, I don't think it's worth the $6 for 2 maps when everyone else sells their 2 pack of maps for 5 (which is still more than I'm willing to pay). I normally wouldn't complain and just buy the maps, but I KNOW that the map pack DVD will contain the same maps, so it's like I'm buying the maps twice.
Now with all of that being said, I'll probably buy the maps ONLY BECAUSE Clayfoot, a co-worker, and myself are just going to split the cost of the DVD into 3rds and I don't loose anything financially. If I wanted to be a real meiser, I would just wait for the used discs to start showing up on ebay a day or two later.

that and the fact that if you're patient, you'll get ALL the new maps gratis later this summer anyway
the only reason i see to buy the DVD is to get this new "expanded universe" story, but only if its good

No way. That map is so big, we'd never find the opposing base before time was up.

It's not like this game was cheap in the first place. Why do I have to pay even more to get two more multiplayer maps? For that matter, it's not like I'm bored and burnt out on the current maps. Why should I pay anything at all to stumble around two new maps? The new maps won't make me a better player. They will just make me more familiar with the new maps before some other folks.

I think I'm just fundamentally impatient.
That and I can pay off the map cost by signing up as a lab rat for any number of doctoral project ads I see around town.

The new maps are alright, but if I wasn't playing with you guys on XBox Live, I wouldn't even consider paying for them. My only interest in the new maps is whether it keeps me from playing with my friends. After Monday, if you guys politely kick me from every party so you can play the new maps, then I'll be buying the new maps on Tuesday. If you keep playing with the old maps until the new ones become free, I'll hold out.

To be honest, I thought the new maps were going to be the factor that would bring everybody back to halo after most people took a break and lost interest. But most people came back during these last 2 weeks, for no particular reason, including me! With the update, people are having even more fun! So, I don't think the new maps are totally necessary.

Well, I'm sure we will play the new maps for a bit, after all we're paying for them! I think the frequency will depend on the number of people that will get them.

I remember reading that the new maps would be available for matchmaking. They would be under a separate playlist. Did they change that?

The way Matchmaking is going to work with the paid maps, if I've understood this correctly, is that there'll be a separate playlist just for those with the paid maps. You go there if you want to play a map that's not available to the general public. If you want to play a map that's available for free, then you can just go into any playlist.
When maps become available for free, they'll be rotated into the regular Matchmaking playlists. When new paid maps become available, dunno... they could either roll it into the existing "paid" playlist, or create a new one for the new paid maps and phase out the old playlist.
I say "phase out the old playlist" because Turf and Sancutary will go to the free download status when the new maps (and the map pack) become available. I think.

It probably just won't match you into games on those new maps, and that's all. You wouldn't even notice.
