[META] Acting Quality

Without really wanting to fall back into meta here.. I have to say the quality of the acting so far is top notch. (Ian, nisha, in particular). The only thing that really made me notice it was the call to nisha today. The audi person on the other end kinda spoiled it for me.

Yeah, they probably got a real Audi representative...who had trouble playing themselves. Wink

Let me just add that the interaction in Atlanta was played VERY straight. If I didn't know better, I would swear we committed a crime as willing accomplices.

Nisha was the only player to be seen (except for a security guard) and the dealership folks (who must have been in on it). She was in character the whole time.

My only complaint - and it is a small one - is that there is no way she was ex military / CIA / whatever. There is something about those folks which is unique.

She was a very good actor, and her in person image is actually better than the photos online. Wink

Actually, the quality of the entire ARG has so far been beyond exceptional. The story is actually interesting and can be easily turned into a book or a movie. The websites are really well designed and programmed. And my favorite part: The characterization! Whoever wrote Virgil should get an award.

Yeah, an award for creepiest game designer who may or may not be a murderer and also he's a stalker...

I have to take a shower after each visit to Virgil's website.

I guess it's bad if you can totally understand Virgil and where he's coming from? Embarassed
(^ joke, as in "ha-ha")

There is a difference between sympathising and empathising though; right now, although we may not like Virgil, his actions, etc, are not unbelievable, and I think most of us can understand the reasons why his is like he is. I mean, his wife was killed by a drunk driver... how can you be sure you wouldn't react the same way in his situation? The characters are all brilliantly deep, and, ironically, the only rough edges are where real-life people are brought in.

The actual events are believable too. I can fully go with the idea that these two stolen art recoverers should be on the tail of a known thief who has hidden data within some cars. This is what a real story is all about: compelling characters acting and talking as you expect they would; each with backgrounds that are there for us to see, not just get 'told' about (to a certain extent, they are telling us, but we do see evidence of their pasts) and tension between the characters who each have their own motives within the story. We don't know where they are heading yet, but we care enough to want to find out how it ends (the *perfect* way to draw someone in... nothing worse than a story where you don't care about the people in it) and already we know that because of what has happened, things have and must continue to change. In a sense, the "dream" has been shattered and each is trying to resolve their problems -- Nisha, Ian, Virgil, the goons... even Audi. It isn't even clear who the good/bad are yet, but we certainly are being sent down a path. Whether that will change as more information is made clear, time will tell. Just to think that we really don't know what is going to happen from this point, with Virgil, with Nisha and Ian... lots could happen yet.

All in all, a good, engaging story, and that is what I really love. This medium has SO much to offer as a new story telling form. There are already clear advantages over, say, cinema, or computer games. So much more can yet be brought into this, as a genre.

Thankfully someone can put it better than myself.
I'm with ya maxim - I feel like I know why/how Virgil is thinking the way he is. Granted it's all probably delusional, but as you said - who knows how you'd react.
