Tranlated text (used a ROT cipher)

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The Receda Cube was stolen from the Academy museum last night in a raid which left one security guard dead. Police chief Eoin Morgan described the theft, which took place during the Annual Academy Ball as "highly organised and technologically sophisticated." Fran Mendling 42, was killed with a neuro-suppressant device, making it impossible to pinpoint the time of death

Academy spokesperson Valerian Reynolds revealed that security cameras and sensors were offline throughout the Ball. She confirmed the thieves reprogrammed portions of the Academy's security security without tripping warning alarms. Academy security personnel discovered the theft at 2am when security guard Mendling failed to check in for her shift change. Police as yet have no suspects and are still questioning ball attendees.

Perplex City Council leader Camryn Scott confirmed today that a police task force will work with Academy experts to find the culprits. She said: "The murderers of Fran Mendling will pay for their crimes. Those who perpetrated this heinous act should know that we will find them, and that we will bring them to justice."Sente Kiteway, Master of the Academy, said in a statement today: "As is well-known, the Cube is a unique object, with certain unusual properties. We have full confidence that, using our knowledge of its composition, we will be able to trace it without difficulty, wherever it may be. The Cube is not only an object of great significance to the city but also a technological wonder in its own right. We are committed to ensuring its safe return." He was not available for further comment.

Possible motives for the theft remain unclear. A ransom demand is seen as one likely development as the Cube, whose value is almost incalculable, could not be sold on the open market. John Ha, owner of the Ha Gallery on the Mobius Strip, conjectured that the Cube may have been stolen "to order" for a wealthy collector.

Academy insiders told reporters today that security has been notoriously lax on the night of the winter ball, the high point of the Academy's social calendar. One high-ranking Academy official who preferred not to be named, remarked: "Security's a joke on ball night. The Academy focuses all its security on the ball, to make sure no one gatecrashes their exclusive party."In previous years, the annual ball has been the occasion of various student pranks including the "sofas in the stairwell" incident.

The Receda Cube is an archaeological artifact of unknown origin. It has unusual scientific religious and mystical groups around Perplex City hold the Cube as an object of reverence. It is housed in the Academy museum and has been on public display since 228. The last serious attempt at theft was in late April of 235.

Hmm, but that on it's own doesn't give us a new direction, does it? Tell me I'm missing something, I don't want to be stumped again.

Maybe it's something to do with the fact that each line uses a different ROT.

adding up the ROTs in each line as they're all different.

16, 18, 14, 19, 18, 19, 4, 23, 12, 15
19, 12, 12, 8, 15, 4, 5
4, 4, 1, 5
6, 20, 15, 24, 21, 15, 19
20, 9, 8, 20, 9, 3, 20
8, 20, 14, 20, 16, 14, 20, 3, 19, 19, 9, 13
5, 7, 9, 15, 3, 12, 19, 12

Swap each number for a letter (A=1, Z=26):

WRPOMAAHW
PRNSRSDWLO
SLLHODE
DDAE
FTOXUOS
TIHTICT
HTNTPNTCSSIM
EGIOCLSL

There's 64 of them - so let's make that a square:

Great!

Very good Sparky! You should become a PM. This one had us all scratching our heads for a few days.

Aahh, closure.

I've never even seen anything like steganography before, so I downloaded every steggery thing I could find for free.

The clue is in the wording, where he said he'd camouflage the clue. So that's what I tried first, and it worked, and I was proud. Smile

The puzzle solved!

Hey guys!

Am still overseas, but just thought I'd tell ya how proud I am that you got the puzzle!

Just to wrap it up, here were the clues I gave:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):

"...make them into a puzzle - just camouflage it a bit..." :: Camouflage stegging.

"...is do what we did with the newspaper clippings..." :: Reference to the article we found in the newspapers, relating to both the anagrammed password to the steg ("Iona Rodie", the writer of the article) as well as the rotted text (the actual article).

"...join them together..." :: Put the ROT numbers together into a line.

"...count the letters...." :: Count the letters from a, and replace the numbers with the corresponding letters.

"....square it...." :: Use a Caesar box.

"...follow the directions..." :: Go to the address.

Hope yas liked it. I know I enjoyed watching yas do it!

When I get home there will be a parcel waiting for me hopefully - as I was one of the lucky 333! I was on the metro in Naples checking my email on my phone when I got the riddle. I solved it and frantically phone-typed to get it in on time. I can't wait to see what it is!

Catchyas later (maybe with another puzzle, but don't hold your breath),

Sparkanum.
