I agree with the tactics, but I disagree with this statement. You'll get tons of kills with BR! Battle Rifles are becoming my new fav weapon, since their accuracy is higher! You can get so many kills with head shots from a distance while your team mates help you take down their shields! I played a king of the hill game on Beaver Creek where I would stay pretty far from the hill just taking head shots while INCyr, Clayfoot and Thunder were inside the hill, shooting smg's and other weapons to take down shields. We never talked about doing it on purpose, but it worked pretty good.

My statement was based on tactics Before AU was released, so you're probably correct. Either way having one person on BR shooting enemies from afar will help the team, whether they kill or get assists. As long as one person is helping to take down the sheild and the other is killing the unshielded. (I think we should put this in the H2 Tactics and Strats thread)

Edit: Props to Clayfoot for the quick and concise summation over on the H2 Tacs and Strats Thread.

One thing you forgot was that the unshielded that get away are nearly imposable to kill be for there shields go back up. So in ways the br can kill what other people can't in their state. This may look like kill stealing but over all it helps the team more. Here is a list of different play styles. Some of them back the others up vary nicely while others try to work alone. What play style are you? I am a mix of all of them but at times I don't know what style I sould choose. If I did i know i would be nearly unstoppable. I think I play like a "Hawk" alot and not enough like a "Wolf". I think Team StK is a pack of Hawks. That is why every one honors them.

I can't get to that link from work. Is there a "Sacrificial Lamb" play style? A "Rhinocerous"? A "Dodo"?

From Not So Common Sense Guide

NSCSG wrote:

Articles: Playstyles

This is mostly to put things in perspective for you. When you are playing, you should try to strictly be ONE of these 5. Granted, you should never be the same one for an entire game; just know WHEN to be each one. I gave them each animals for a few reasons:

1. I have researched a bit about Shaolin and enjoyed it.
2. It helps you remember
3. It helps you take pride in your dominant playstyle

Hawk

This was most common in Halo 1, and is still one of the most common playstyles for highly skilled players in Halo 2. Many of the less skilled reading this have instantly thought "I should play like a hawk! How do they play?!" I'll get to that in a minute, but remember:

A skilled player only plays as the hawk because he feels that he can rely on his good eye, and his good aim, to get him out of any situation.

Since the pistol was removed, you can't kill as fast in Halo 2. That means the spider, the wolf, and the vulture will ALWAYS beat a hawk if they are of equal skill.

Hawks, as you might have guessed, rely on their good eye and good aim. Hawks are the players who stand on top of the rock slope in Beaver creek with the sniper rifle and the battle rifle and just wait for you to poke your head out. To be a hawk, you have to be a good shot and aware of your surroundings (i.e. skilled), but to be skilled, you don't have to be a hawk. Remember that.
Bear

The bear is the brother of the hawk. Consider them the same in the sense that they both seek out others and destroy them, relying on reflexes and ability rather than strategy and cunning, but Bears are always more of a melee sort.

You'll find Bears the most in Rumble Pit games, and they'll be the ones rushing in with a shotgun or SMG/magnum, dropping people like flies and not having a care in the world, chucking grenades until, inevitably, they die.

Those that play as the Bear, and are successful, expect their death every time they go into battle. They deliberately set out for the largest groups, or the highest ranking targets, and just plow into them like a freight truck.

Their goal is not to kill and live, but merely to kill; that is what makes a bear so dangerous.
Spider

The spider is the most hated, and (generally) the most effective, of the five playstyles. If you have realized that all these animals were picked for a reason, you'll know that the spider is one that lays traps.

The Spider is the one who will run out, and assume the role of weakness, only to hide in a building at the last minute. Knowing they will be followed, they turn around and hold the shotgun and wait.

Spiders will wait with a sniper rifle, watching the rocket launcher or sword, just waiting to take out any who would dare step foot near it.

But just as in real life, if a Spider doesn't have his web, he is useless. Once you realize that someone is playing with the playstyle of "spider", start to second guess your instincts. Spiders -always- play by abusing your natural instinct. If you see him run away, be ready for a trap. If you haven't seen him for a while, assume he's waiting around a corner with a shotgun, or watching a special weapon.

Spiders are very passive, and generally win most head to head games.
Wolf

The Wolf is the least common of the five styles, and that is a sad thing.

One thing that wolves know is that no matter how strong they are, no matter how fast they are, there is always the possibility that there is something bigger. They also know that it is easier to take down even the simplest of prey if you work as a team.

That is why wolves run in packs.

I have personally seen photographs of what happened to a moose after a pack of wolves got a hold of it. For those that have never seen a moose (I've only seen pictures, I live in Kentucky), they are freaking huge. A moose could easily kill six wolves individually, one after the other, no problem. But the small pack of wolves (so I was told, as six) killed the moose with zero casualties.

Wolves are team players. They don't "call the sniper rifle", they don't do what is best for their score, they don't go for the glory. But at the end of the match, the wolves share the victory.

In team slayer games, the wolves ALWAYS win if they are at least half the skill level of a group of hawks.

Most people honor the players who choose the style of Hawk; I, personally, and more impressed by a pack of wolves.
Vulture

Vultures are carrion beasts. Kill stealers, cowards, weaklings, pansies, and downright no fun to play with.

At least that's what the opposing team says.

Vultures weapon of choice is the battle rifle, with sniper rifle in a close second.

Vultures are very similar to spiders, in the sense that they allow something ELSE to do the work for them. While spiders generally use some sort of incentive to sway their enemies (weak enemy, follow him... important weapon...), Vultures just wait and play it safe.

More spiders are crushed because their one shotgun blast they got off didn't kill the enemy than anything else. Vultures don't like that, and, unlike spiders, tend to fight at a distance. Away from explosives. Near a lot of cover with several escape routes.

Vultures are those that follow the weaker players in rumble pit games, or will sit up high someplace with a battle rifle, and not fire a shot until someone loses their shields. Vultures are crafty bastards, but generally don't win unless there is a lot of chaos going on, or a lot of teamwork on the vulture's team.

i used to try to be a bear, but i got splattered... A LOT Sad
we need to be more wolf-like, especially on objective games, i was getting frustrated last night when i'd get the ghost on coag, tell the warthog i'd support them, only to see it drive off without a passenger or acknowlege that i said i'd provide cover

so next time i grabbed the 'hog, yelled for the ghost to help (who then flew off without saying anything other than "i'm goin for rockets" when they were already in play) and beeped and called for a passenger (got a gunner, but no passenger)

remember, FULL WARTHOGS ONLY, and if you get the ghost and the rockets are already taken, for god's sake, support the hog!

Mix of Hawk and Spider. I'm usually the one who watches the ledges in waterworks to see when they put a sniper up there, and kill them as soon as they're out of the banshee. I often try the shotgun trick (usually with little sucess.)

I know we try and emulate the "wolf" style of play, and try and pack up, but usually we're all so independant, that it makes it hard. We all like going off and exploring, and since we play for the fun of it, usually, we end up getting ourselves killed because we didn't stay in a pack. I know I do this all the time. When we do manage to stay in a pack, we usually rock the game like nothing else.

I'm 75% bear and 25% spider. I really have to work on my deaths per game. I die just too damn much! Laughing I do get a lot of kills, but still get killed a lot. I just find it hard to not go after a red on my motion sensor.

It's hard to implement team work, like INCyr mentioned. But I think we're doing much better lately! *If only Vash could speak a little less* Cool

I'm some sort of wolf/bear hybrid. I prefer to work in packs, but if that's not an option then I just charge in. Probably not entirely healthy, but its come up with some big scores on occasion. I'm much more likely to go bear style in an objective game (charge in with the bomb, melees flying, for example) than a slayer match.

Lately, I've been using more of the "startled lizard" fighting stance, where I end up spinning around, yelling like a freak, trying to get my bearings in the dance, and ultimately being at the not-funny end up of a melee attack or sniper rifle bullet. I'm fairly certain there's a team use hiding in there somewhere. Definitely.

I would have to say that I used to be 96% Bear and 4% wolf. If we have or agree to a team strategy, then I'm 80% wolf 19% bear, 1% other. I can change on the fly, but I have to see teamwork to calm the raging bear.

I am constently changing. It all depends on what weapons I have, what map, what I think the enemy is going to do, what I think my team is going to do, 'nades, and who my enemy/team is. It Changes every sec. If i get hert i will do the spider thing. I play hawk when no one elts has a sniper or i see you have to get by me to get it. exc.

I play vulture and wolf (do so, so there! Raspberry). That banshee/rockets on Ascension strategy --that's all vulture. I'm frequently looking for someone to back up or to rescue. I will only charge in if I have no choice or if it looks really safe. I will pick up the sniper and fire away out of sheer desperation and fear. I drive the warthog like I believe there's a rocket launcher just over the next rise. I have been known to grab weapons and hide with them, just to keep opponents (curse you, VMVash!) from getting them. I love to hyjack vehicles (especially enemy vehicles) and keep them out of the enemy's reach. I am sold on the multiplayer attack, and I will wait for someone to spawn before I rejoin the battle, if I can.
