EMAIL: Phyllis to Phensley...the truth about the manuscript

Phensley posted this at CD. Now Phyllis tells us the truth...sheesh

Sorry guys got this early this morning and didn't have to post it until now.

Dear Pam,
As I told Sunny I have extremely mixed emotions about the manuscript
page. It conjures up all sorts of traumatic experiences and feelings. The
burglary, Douglas' withdrawal, the poltergeist activity, the re-arrangement of my entire
life started with opening that trunk and taking that sheet of paper
into my hands. I had a life that I understood and all of it has been thrown
into the air. Am I better person for this upheaval? I believe that I am but the price for this progress has been awfully high. The fears, the anguish, the grief over Douglas' death, all of these negative emotions are tangled up in that transition and it's hard to feel grateful for suffering. Do I wish I
could go back to wearing my mask? To being shallow and self-centered? To playing the role of fluffy lap dog? Of course, not.

I want to come clean about something: Back when Colin Penrose and many of you first contacted me, there was an assumption that this page was ancient – as in hundreds of years old. This added to the glamour and increased the value of it so I carefully never said otherwise. I do remember saying something like: it is wise not to argue with a customer when they think they know more about an item than its seller. I was saying then what I am saying now more blatantly. The paper and the media used to illustrate it do not date back to the Middle Ages. I do not believe that Trithemius himself created this page. Now, I have no idea
if the content is authentic or not. It could be a copy of an older page
or an embellishment. I would guess that, like everything else in the trunk, Sarah created it. I see no attempts at aging so I don't believe she was making a forgery. I think we all clearly realize that Sarah was and, on some level, still is an otherworldly creature. We can only marvel at the sources of her inspiration. When Penrose appraised the value of this page – holding it in his hands as we now know beyond doubt – I cannot understand why it he put such a high price on it. It cannot be because of the object itself; it must be the content and its import that made him deem it so valuable. I believe the page as a link to Sarah, its creator, was proven during last night's séance. But, the source of her inspiration and the validity of the content remain unknown.
There, I feel much better being straightforward about that.

Fondly,
Phyllis
