Just a quick note for those who aren't aware...there's a poll about for letting everyone know how you found out about Perplex City. If everyone votes, we'll have an estimate of how many people are playing as well. SO if you haven't already...let us know!

Cheers

Trust me, you get used to it.

While I'm posting, welcome to all the newcomers. Don't listen to me in the few times I post and go on IRC and you'll do fine.

Thought I'd introduce meself. I've been lurking around here for a while (watched you guys on the Abbey Road webcam) and mostly playing Ares Station.

But, since I managed to get in quick on the puzzle riddle - and I would hate to have taken a parcel away from a genuine player - thought I'd better become a genuine player too!

Can't wait for the ride to really start.

I've been lurking the forums for just a week or two after discovering ARGs from a Guardian article(ithink) and thought I'd say hi

Doubt I got into the 333, which would be fair since I've only just started here.

Any relevance

Having received a copy of the Firebox catalogue today it is safe to say that I am now well and truly hooked.

So much for my finals!!!

This may be of no relevance whatsoever however Wink the
bottom right photo which somebody picked up on in an earlier post is similar to this photo which subsequently leads to information relating to VR CUBE'S from an organisation seemingly called "Syzygy" - I don't think it particularly relates to any of the characters or plot but it is a WEIRD coincidence!!!

Just a few quick pointers for those of you desperate to get going on this game:

1. Check out the beginner's thread to hit the ground running. Yeah, it's up to 8 pages, but I promise it won't take you very long to read.

2. Before you post, use 2 things. The first is search. A lot of people waste their own time doing things that we've already solved, which is cool if you want to, but not necessary if you just want to get up to speed - we can use your IQ elsewhere.
The second thing you should use is your brain - stop and think 'Am I just being paranoid?' - after a couple of weeks or so you'll probably get a pretty good feel for whether you're reaching or not.

3. Ask. If you're not sure, just ask. Personally, I'm happy to answer your personal messages (PMs) (though my job means it might sometimes be a few days until I'm able to respond) and I think most other people here feel the same, especially the mods (sorry guys Wink ).

Lastly, welcome to the site. Just last week Spankit, a new player, solved a puzzle (probably) we've been struggling with for months, so there's always room for new people here.

also just wanted to remind you all that POTUS set up
this sign-up page for everyone to map their location on a map.

it may turn out to be pointless, but it's quite fun to see where we all are anyway! so go ahead and add yourself.

It might not turn out to be useless once someone here figures out where the cube is but can't get to it. If I /think/ I know the cube's somwhere in, say, London, I'm not sure if I'm going to buy a plane ticket from baltimore (where I live) in case I'm wrong. I might, however, tell some people on this board in London who I think possibly might not keep /all/ the reward money. I wouldn't want to post my ultimate solve online in case some bastard lurker saw my solve and got the cube before someone with slightly better morals. So I'd use the map of where everyone is to find a couple of people in London (again, still hypothetical) who frequent this board and email them with my solve. And that's why I'm pimpin' POTUS' awesome list.

Did that make sense?

Evening (or is it morning?), guys and gals,

I've decided to hook up to offer my best puzzle solving abilities, after reading about the Perplex City thang in the gaming page supplement of The Independent. Looks like's it's already proved to be a cracking game, and the fun is only just getting started...although how anybody can imagine that they'll be able to solve this thing single - handedly is beyond me!! Teamwork all the way I guess, and stuff the money!!

Of course, having got all excited about the ability of a large group of people pooling resources internationally, using just their wits and verve to decipher puzzles, pick up e - mail drops, and wander off to strange new places in search of clues pretty much free of charge, to discover that's it's running perilously close to degenerating into a card game - with all that portends (how much money are people likely to have to fork out to collect all the cards??) is a bit of a downer...still, when resources are being pooled so excellently here, maybe there's hope yet that we can complete the set!!!

Anyway, glad to be on board,
Lee.
