NamelessPete and I just played a round in each of the new maps. Quick impressions:

Turf and Containment are the best out of the bunch. Containment is indeed huge, and makes a passable Sidewinder replacement. Turf was crazy with all the corners and stuff to hide around. I can only imagine what it'd be like with 16 people. If anyone can figure out how to get on top of the Scarab leg, let me know. Turf is worth the price of the download by itself, so get it!

Warlock is nice, it feels just like Wizard - like visiting an old friend again. Surprisingly, replacing the ladders with air vents makes more of a difference than you'd expect. So does the lack of overshields.

Sanctuary is the most beautiful map of the pack. There's a lot of sound effects and scenery packed in. It has a bit of a hang em high vibe, with lots of little chunks of rock to hide behind.

Now I must go be productive, alas. I'll be on tonight by 9 EST to explore the new fun Smile

Will I need my snow shoes for Containment? It looks awful snowy. Being from the south I'm not used to snow.

New Maps

I'm just curious what everyones planning on doing about the new maps. I pulled down the two free maps this morning, and was so tempted to pay for the others. However, I thought if everyone's going to wait until they're free, then I guess I'll wait. On the other hand, if most people in our clan are going to pay for all the maps now, I'd hate to be left out.

So, what's the verdict?

I was originally dead set on waiting, but now I'm on the verge of getting them. I figure I'll probably get more utility out of them in two months than I would out of most things that cost $6. Ah well. I'll decide later. Class now.

I think that we should get skis on Containment. Its so far to run in the snow.

They should totally make it so that the Pumas skid in the snow.

Try using the e-brake on snow. Is there any extra effect there?

I'm not buying the new maps online. If you don't buy them either, you can still play match-made or custom games with me.

My impressions:

All the maps have one thing in common-they seem to be made with ambushes in mind. There's tons of corners and shortcuts to be had in all the maps, if you look for em.

Containment is my new favorite map-between the trench, the caves, the teleports, there's plenty of places to move around in. Even the Scorpion tank is pretty weak on the map, thanks to massive numbers of, again, corners, rockets, turrets, and gauss hogs. And launching the hog over the gate is fun as hell-I want to try it with a ghost. Or a Wraith!

Turf is my second favorite. It's cramped, but it is seriously ambush city. There's so many little nooks my friend and I found that you can just hide that people will just walk right past and then get wiped out. I don't know how useful the hog will be on there outside of setting up somewhere to suppress enemy movements. But it was definitely worth the moneys.

Warlock is Wizard, but slightly bigger, I think. Neat map, I like all the shotguns and battle rifles. Could become a favorite like wizard did before it.

Sanctuary was my least favorite, if only because it seemed a bit cramped for sniper rifles. Could make for a good alternative to Beaver Creek, though, and there's still a nice amount of room to manuever in.

All in all I'm wishing I wasn't at work today.

We did a large scale CTF on containment. It's fucking insane.

Even if you do buy them, we can play match-made and custom games with you. Just because you don't have the maps doesn't mean you can't play with us. They're making a new matchmaking playlist that uses the bought maps... that's the only place you won't be able to play with us. Well, except for custom games, but I'm sure if you're around, we aren't gonna just kick ya out to play on the bought maps.

I figure $6 for 2 months of entertainment is better than $8 for 2 hours of entertainment (a movie). Sure, I'm paying for it twice, but I often pay to see a movie in the theatre and then buy the DVD afterward.

Wow, my resistance didn't last long. I've broken down and am downloading the maps now.
