the device is called a sextant. a quadrant is formed by slicing an area into four pieces. each peice is a quadrant. its similar to saying the french quarter, the downtown quarter, the business quarter, ect.

noise cancellation could be as simple as raising some walls, coating the stadium walls with rubber or other acoustic materials, or an reversed sound emmitter.

Unfortunately I can't stop reading it as a sentence whose first letters spell 'gonad'...

Nomads and daemons...referring to computing terms? near-anagrams?

"Gonad" ... let's hope that's not leading anywhere.

Not just near anagrams, a near palindrome.

I just can't get around the fact that they have a Commissioner Gordon - maybe they have a Batman too! And a shiny red phone! yay!

But seriously folks, now we know they have the same months as us, it's just the way they count their years that's different.

lovin' the crystal maze reference Smile
It was a mentally challenging game as well though, lots of the games were more of a puzzle than a physical thing.
Mumsy was always fun to watch Smile

No, the quadrant was the precursor to the sextant. It used a scale of 90 degrees (quarter of circle) to measure celestial altitude as opposed to the later sextant's (and then octant) 60 degrees. The sextant was invented a few years earlier than our supposed discovery-of-the-Cube time.

It will probably end up being something less glamorous than what we all have in our heads right now--like maybe a monster truck rally. Smile

Last time I checked April ment spring for those of us in the northern hemisphere. Possible hint at the location of the city on whatever planet they happen to be on.

Just because it's spring doesn't mean it's not fricking freezing (Mr Bigglesworth) or piddling down with rain. Going off that Perplex City could be anywhere in the UK! lol

After all...

Not really, as the fact that April is our spring is due to the tilt of the Earth's axis and its orbit pattern around the sun, which I'm pretty sure is unique.

it has to be a team mental competition. reasons: their culture sure is full of it, if it requires thinking- it wouldnt be good to have people making a whole bunch of noise in the stands (get sound cancelling devicies).

and of course, wouldnt it be fun to make fun of a friends favorite team because of their lack of intelligence Very Happy

The noise cancellation was for the surrounding neighborhood, rather than for the competitors. . . as I understood the article.
