[SPEC] PCBC Bank I'm not entirely sure how long this advert has been on The Sentinal, but it's definaitely realted to Perplex city, as one of the adverts says 'Where Lecks work smarter'
Whatever that's supposed to mean. The logo is of minor interest. It's similar in shape to the pattern in the corner of the postcard way back at the start (I don't know what. I've only been here a few days now)
It's probably not related to this mystery, but it's interesting nonetheless
Oh, and did I get the [SPEC] part right?

I think someone said elsewhere that PCBC is also a real world bank. Maybe they're one of the sponsors of this. I have a feeling that they are trying to set up this ARG as a lead in to "Keys". Like paypal but also like a car key.

PACIFIC CAPITAL BANCORP has the stock symbol PCBC, but it's not what they call themselves... As has been mentioned elsewhere, their logo is also similar to HSBCs, but was that just the inspiration for the PMs and means nothing?

PCBC = Perplex City Banking Corporation.
both perplexcitybank.com and perplexcitybankingcorporation.com are parked at Godaddy.

but parked on different dates to the other perplex city stuff if i remember rightly... someone was saying pepl...itylibrary.com and ceretin.com are parked with dodgy front pages with the right dates, so maybe they're our best options?

I've got a list of over 40 GoDaddy domains 'associated' with PC. Whether they will all be used is anybody's guess - I doubt it. They most likely just want to stop OOG stuff from happening.
I still think we are meant uncover corruption in PC. Do some anagrams of the first letters and see what I meadn - "total saps."

From the godaddy site, $8.95 per .com domain, × 40 domains = $358.

We already know the PCBC ad is in-game, as is pretty much everything else on the Sentinel site. Lecks (or PCL) are the currency of Perplex City.

this touches on something i've been wondering fFor a bit now, tho:
How long are those adspaces rented fFor? the sentinel has only 2 advertisers, each having only, what, 5 ads which have run fFor the past month, straight. That kind of advertising on any other site -- such as cnn.com -- would be marvelously expensive. dont they have other advertisers?
also, a good newspaper in our world is constantly in conflict of balance, meeting ad-volume with story-volume, about 50/50. There can be as many story itemsas people want, at fFirst, but it's not unthinkable a newspaper would have to trim content in order to print more ads. Of course, this is not necesarilly the case with a online edition. YMMV.

Good point. Maybe the sentinel is owned/strongly affiliated with the 2 advertisements?

Keep in mind we have already been told that this version may be different from the PXC edition (it's on the banner and in the recent article
Quote:
Earth readers of our External Edition
) and therefore - this is only just occuring to me - the format and advertising are calculated with us in mind. Perhaps PCBC and Ceretin have determined to corner the market. Perhaps they are major backers in whatever tech is required to get these web contacts with us going...? there's more here but IT guy needs to "fix" this 'puter. heh

But that doesnt seem right either, dogshead. If they were targetting the ads just fFor us, wouldnt they use ads which are directly aimed at Earth users? I'm not sure what that would be. Other websites, maybe; ads fFor the academy, maybe. Not consumer merchandise like ceretin, tho. No, in this early phase of Earth exploration, i imagine they hadnt really worked out the whos and hows of marketting things. I'm pretty sure the ads we see are whatever is normally running on the sentinel. which doesnt entirely make sense either, eh.
so what i'm saying is, there is something really fFishy about these advertisers. why do they never change?
