All right then, let me throw out another idea. 9+9+9 = 27. This looks like a spacer to me; could the other nubers be letters? I tried doing some translation by adding the numbers up and putting a letter to that, but I was getting a lot of gobbledygook. Did anyone else try something similar?

Interesting idea of adding the numers up. I don't think that's been tried, yet. However, there have been many attempts thus far to convert the numbers to letters. It's no skin off my back, but I suggest you read the rest of this topic. I've seen some people get mad when the same questions have been asked,

I don't mean to discourage you, though and I'm sorry if I sounded mean or angry. I strongly urge you to try anything and everything you can think of. That's what ARGs are about. And welcome to Unfiction, too! Very Happy

I read the rest of this particular post. All I saw was that some people tried to convert it to letters, but I wasn't sure what methods had been tried. As far as I could tell, people were often treating it as some sort of code-to-text translation. I wasn't sure if anyone had thought of just adding the numbers or something.

And thanks for the welcome. =)

im musically inclined, and this just popped into my head regarding converting the number triads into a letter. the numbers may mean in what order to play that note, it may be a 26 beat long excerpt which seems like it relates to letters more, but it's just an idea. if any key doubles, it might be a chord. just something to try if you get it written out. if it's a queen song, someone should be able to tell. and i hope it is queen, because queen rocks hard!

bandgeekwhitey that seems like a good idea

Not sure if anyone's working on that, here I arranged the numbers into their key areas. Seems like as good of an arrangement as any to use a "find and highlight" to find the key order and chords as bandgeekwhitey suggested...

(999s replaced with '===' as suggested earlier)

Code:

061 006    059 164    196    062 ===    103 011    152 099    === ===    ===    079 164    110    143 ===    205 077

just browsing and though of something

Considering all the numbers have an apparent pattern, youve already noticed that the first two are 26 and below, including 00. The third number most be significant to the whole. How bout using the third number as a ROT.

For instance 263 would be letter 26 rotated 3. 002 would be letter 0 rotated 2.

Unfortunately, 00 through 26 inclusive gives 27 unique values, whereas the letters 'A' through 'Z' inclusive have 26 unique values...

no answer, digging ... digging

Google: octave + encyption =
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc2612.html

the only encryption that had any mention of an octave.
everything else seemed like junk.

Google: chord + encryption = http://flashsupport.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=953
This is odd, could this be the coders of the virtucube looking for help
decoding their snippit of code? Otherwise its just a red herring.
Although if it is a part of the code, then we need to figure out what it
means or we are bypassing the puzzle and wouldnt be able to answer
how we figured out the puzzle.

It appears to show a rotational encryption scheme. Although he posted
it there because it didnt work. I know some coding but, i dont know how
different flash code is from C++ code. so some of the function calls are
a little odd to me. None the less, he didnt respond when somone asked
what the code was supossed to do, he might have been reluctant because
he didnt want to reveal what he was doing, or he debugged it himself.

None the less somone with some flash experience should have a go over
on that little piece of code and see if it could have something to do with our 210 set of numbers and the numbered keys we were given.

At least it might be able to give us ideas on a new direction to go with this puzzle. I hate to see everyone give up on this. Maybe ill waste some cash and buy a clue to share with everyone.

Notice when you solve part 1 the keys are shorter..just a thought but maybe you have to put the keys back in and do something with the remainging numbers?

True, although the summation of each triplet is another possibility. 999 would be 27 and everything else is below that. The problem is that values would then only range from about 2-18, excluding alot of possible letters. Of course the numbers down below have to mean something I'm sure so with ROTing or the likes you could probably get a full spread of letters.

I still think there's some big hint we are missing and I haven't found what so I've been spending very little time on trying to figure things out the last few months.

EDIT: As an additional note: People have been wondering why the 2 and 9 are out of place in the initial ordering and then grey after moving the keys. I have no idea if this is relevent or not, but Radio Gaga spent 9 weeks on chart and reached #2...possibly just a nice coincidence.

Oh, and Radio Gaga has 263 words in it (at least according to these lyrics) unless I miscounted:

Quote:
Radio (1)
I'd sit alone and watch your light (8)
My only friend through teenage nights (14)
And everything I had to know (20)
I heard it on my radio (26)
You gave them all those old time stars (34)
Through wars of worlds - invaded by Mars (41)
You made 'em laugh - you made 'em cry (49)
You made us feel like we could fly (57)
Radio (58)

So don't become some background noise (64)
A backdrop for the girls and boys (71)
Who just don't know or just don't care (79)
And just complain when you're not there (86)
You had your time, you had the power (94)
You've yet to have your finest hour (101)
Radio - radio (103)

All we hear is radio gaga (109)
Radio googoo (111)
Radio gaga (113)
All we hear is radio gaga (119)
Radio blah blah (122)
Radio what's new ? (125)
Radio, someone still loves you (130)

We watch the shows - we watch the stars (138)
On videos for hours and hours (144)
We hardly need to use our ears (151)
How music changes through the years (157)

Let's hope you never leave old friend (164)
Like all good things on you we depend (172)
So stick around 'cos we might miss you (180)
When we grow tired of all this visual (188)
You had your time - you had the power (196)
You've yet to have your finest hour (203)
Radio - radio (205)

All we hear is radio gaga (211)
Radio googoo (213)
Radio gaga (215)
All we hear is radio gaga (221)
Radio googoo (223)
Radio gaga (225)
All we hear is radio gaga (231)
Radio blah blah (234)
Radio what's new ? (237)
Someone still loves you (241)

Radio gaga (243)
Radio gaga (245)
Radio gaga (247)

You had your time - you had the power (255)
You've yet to have your finest hour (262)
Radio (263)

Unfortunately almost every place I go has slightly different lyrics for Radio Gaga but all are about the same length. The problem is a slight difference could through everything off if the numbers relatie to the word you choose.

Hi folks, I have been lurking in this thread for a while...
I am going to throw some idea's your way to see if it inspires =)

brainstorm *sound of lightning and thunder*:

The numbers outlined form either a word or letter. Once found they will need to be placed in order 1-12 and will form lyrics to a Queen song?

The numbers are colourcoded.. when coloured they form the clue?

Start with the smallest box with the least number of varied numbers and work that out. Might refer to the number that represents that box. i.e 8 has 999 five times in a row downwards... so it would be the easiest one to work out.. has 9 numbers remaining.

Numbers represent plots on a graph which then form a soundwave?

999 is confusing, if it is indeed a spacer.. box 2 would be a 23 letter word. Unless the 999 is a filler to fill junk spots. i.e. the numbers represent letters which then form a big find-a-word.. once completed there is a letter left over in each box?

I have tried matching the numbers with words of the lyrics and then using the first and last letter or the last letters or the first letters. I get a few words here and there but the rest of it is just scrambled. Also the different varierties of lyrics messes things up a bit. I tried both of the ones posted here and got things like 'drows' (which is sword backwards) and 'egohey'. These were amongst scrambled letters tho. =/

If you guys look at the "Keep yourself alive" picture train, you will see that the key is grey while the other pictures are black and white. It also has written below THR33 which I believe points to the 3rd face. I think it is pointing to the fact that the greyed out 2 and 9 are in fact the 'key' to solving the puzzle and we should be paying closer attention to them. Check the other hints, there may be smaller hints hidden in them as well.

missing line

This may just be my computer but I highly doubt it. I zoomed right in on the picture and there is no line showing keys 9 and 12 as being seperate, could this be a glitch? Also, why does the cursor only go into a hand on the bottom half of each number segment (bottom 4 rows?)

To me the elf is outlined in grey as well instead of being outlined in black. Several greyscale shades are used in that clue. With regards to the mouse cursor, I think that's just a glitch from the keys moving around and their clickable regions as well. I could be wrong of course. I'm sure the 9 and 2 have something to do with solving the face but I can't figure out what their role is obviously.

I'm not sure what is going on with the lines between the keys but I didn't notice that before. There is only a line between keys 1/9 and 12/3.

EDIT:
Yet more 9 and 2 "coincidences":

Radio Gaga was Re-cut in '92 and was 9:02 mins in length.
