Just posted this over here .

I got to taking a good look at the photos last night, and was thinking there was something on the guys arm - insignia or something. Blew it off, went to bed, and what's the Sentinal article about today?

Certain secret societies and religious groups have also produced their own Leitmarks, the better to recognise one another discreetly in a public forum.
I'm really not very good with images, so I have no idea as to how to get any clarity on the dude's arm - all I did was zoom in. Anyone else able to get a better look?

Leitmark, if taken as a German word, translates as 'guidance mark'.
"Leit", on it's own, means "lead"... leading is guiding. Semantics, really, but it might be an important distinction if we're looking to garner ourselves some leitmarks.

mapping Hey Demontague!
I've been trying to do some mapping as well, but, like you, I haven't come up with much. The one interesting experiment I did was comparing Scarlett's skyline with the postcard picture from the balcony. You can't see Ascendancy Point from the vantage point of the person creating the picture, which means that it is either from the AP building itself (it does seem a higher vantage point than most others around) or at least on the same side of town.
As most things in the postcard relate to Sente in his professional capacity, one could surmise that the picture shows his/the Academy's vantage point. This would place Old Town (Academy/Five of Cups) around or near Ascendancy Point. At first I rejected this idea as AP seemed too new, too far advanced overthe other buildings around, then I remembered the rejection of technology Scarlett describes in the personal portaits.
I also lightened up the picture - something that looks a bit like stadium lights are visible on the right hand side (Quadrant Street district?) and something a bit like mountains (sea behind you from balcony vantage?)
Lastly, I am guessing that the Mobius strip (location of the Ha Gallery) is in the Artists Quarter.
This is all really conjectural, trout me if you must, but it keeps me busy while waiting for access to the Perplex Academy site! Does this fit with what you were thinking?

I'm actually at a bit of a moral dilemma. on the one hand, the sentinel is all, you know, mean and stuff and whatnort.
but on the other hand -- they're kinda right. If i were a perplexian, i wouldnt want a bunch of weirdo fForeigners who have apparently contributed nothing to my world to go around taking the highest honors, just cos some guy at some school thinks they deserve it.
so like, i want my leitmark. you betcha! but on the other hand, i see room fFor a letter to the editor voicing my thoughts. would it be rocking the boat, ya think? maybe i'll post it under a pseudonym or something.

Anyone notice that the article says "an Earth-dwelling rabble of ad hoc Cube-hunters may be issued with a Leitmark." Notice how they a Leitmark. That means the rabble (us) will be receiving a single Leitmark. So if it does come in the parcel, we will each be receiving 1/333 of a Leitmark. I'm not sure anyone's going to notice I'm wearing it on my sleeve if that's the case.

I think that I understood the article differently than you. The article says that we will receive a leitmark, but never says whan. I think that we will receive it when the cube is recovered, as a reward, and not before. It would be consistent with the fast that a leitmark is a great honor. Why would we receive the leitmark now, when we have yet to do a single thing in the direction of hte cube?
The writer of the article seems to have a problem with the fast that *all* of us will get one at the end, which will make it common. And he also may dislike foreigner, even if he claims otherwise. The sentinel has also run a lot of article critical of Sente and this may just be part of an ongoing campaign to discredit him and his policy. This article may aim at creating outrage among perplexians. By being vague, can stretch the truth and have more impact at people jump to conclusions.

i think it was yesterday when i said i wished the sentinel articles would be a little more encyclopedic, giving more fFact about this interesting world, and less day-to-day ho-hum plodding along of news. reading today's article, i am pleased to see my request has been answered what a great article, eh
