Well, that page the google returns is no longer online. Google Cache shows what the page contents were as of 05/22/04. What's the timeframe for the postcards? I'm guessing 5/22/04 predates them by a large enough margin that it's probably safe to say this page isn't related, but I'm new to perplexcity so I can't say for sure.

This is G o o g l e's cache of http://0x800ccc0d.com/1010111001101000110100000111011 as retrieved on May 22, 2004 20:16:02 GMT.

The domain name '0x800ccc0d.com' uses a different registrar than the perplexcity domains. Also, it's registered to a postal address in New Orleans, LA. I'd expect PC domains to be registered to domainsbyproxy, and to still be active, especially if the puzzle hasn't yet been solved.

One of the problems I see in calculating these discrepancies is the varying "accurate" Avogadro number. I've seen about 5 different versions of the "most up-to-date calculation" of this number. Maybe there's something in the numbers the code does use beyond 22154, instead of the difference between N(A) and the postcard code.

Hmm, I think that the Postcard number might become useful in the future, but not as of right now.

To me, it seems that the number is some kind of tracking number, either for where it is supposed to be delivered to, or where it was delivered from.

I say that, because the postcard has the PCPS stamped on it, meaning that it has gone through the postal service, but has no other markers indicating which branch, eg with the Royal Mail you have like "Islington Royal Mail" and then the date in the stamp....

In my previous post I talked about a site I found by searching for the (partial) number i arrived at in my calcs. This lead me to something called uselessword.com (I'm relliably informed this is trout fodder, but hang on). Searching for uselessword i found this site: http://blogs.sun.com/roller/comments/rama/Weblog/what_the_heck_is_this
Give it a look over, see what you think. Pay particular attention to the websites of the people posting comments and the weird txt you get over some of the mailto icons.
It also links to: http://www.mkaz.com/math/google/
which is has good info on e.
http://www.mkaz.com/math/krypto/
also looks interesting, but i cant work out why... Anyway hope this interesting...

The mailto stuff is basically just a way to obfuscate email addresses so spam harvesters don't get them. Nothing terribly uncommon about that.

The rest looks like a few people wondering what that site is about. I really don't think this is related to PerplexCity.

Something about these stamps looks rather familiar:

Guys, the code we're talking about is the number underneath the stamp. The stamp is a semacode that points to www.perplexcity.com

We already knew this

the website's url is a reference to an email error in Outlook Express. The error pops up if your connection to the server is blocked or cutoff.

just thought i'd throw that out there for you guys to pick apart.

While this is a interesting find and a sub-par pun what with the 'e-mole' and everything, I'm not even sure that this is a solve. I was never convinced that the number had anything to be solved in the first place so I guess that makes me a bit biased, but I think it's safe to say that if this is the solve, then it's a solve about as useful as the 'hello world' solve. Cute, and hands down to Spankit for going back and looking at e after so much pain was associated with it, but otherwise completely useless.

In short, I wouldn't get all lathered up about there being a mole sticking their moley noses about.

Again, greetz to Spankit on finding this 'solve', but lets not take this as far as we have some other solves. Just this once?

well, the error number is what I find most interesting. Maybe this is why we haven't seen any email sfrom Sente and maybe that's why he's having to use Firebox and other mags to communicate
