Email Phyllis The Library and apparition and progress

Dearest Sunny,
I am looking at this threat you passed on from the Numbered Ones and this line stands out to me: "You have already lost the unity you need without any of our actions." I know you are worried about us and there is certainly danger here but I feel they are saying this to the groups of helpers, not to us. The dark forces have certainly taken some dramatic actions here and we still stand united in our purpose. Yes, James and Chris were badly frightened and wanted to run but they didn't. We are all stronger than we have ever been in our commitment to help Dale.

Now on to the good news: Last night at the Library was quite wonderful and we'll be going back again tonight. We've found another entity!
We arrived at the Library just as the last stragglers where being shooed out of the doors by Agatha. The security team fanned out around the building and Agatha welcomed us in and locked the doors behind us. She was quite excited about the prospect of watching Iris at work even though I had spent an hour on the phone with her today warning that we were likely to be bored. Iris and I strolled into the main reading area while Agatha bustled off toward the offices. Iris was drawn toward the area where the Walli Fard Collection is stored. She said, "I think--" and the lights went dim, making us both startle. We laughed at each other when we realized it was just Agatha shutting down the primary overhead lights. Agatha came back with a huge grin on her face, clapped her hands together and bubbled, "How do we start?"

Agatha and I kept a pace or so behind Iris as she wandered about and the silence pressed upon us. Every quarter hour or so, Agatha would whisper to Iris, "Do you feel anything yet?" And I would gently shush her and reply, "Iris needs to concentrate," as though I were speaking to an over-eager child. At one point, she startled both of us by blurting out, "I think I feel something!" "Oh, for goodness sake, Agatha! Shush!" Need I say she was starting to annoy me? I decided I needed to visit the Ladies' Room and have Agatha accompany me, giving Iris a wink as we left.

When we returned, Agatha suggested we explore the basement and storage area downstairs so off we went down the dim stairs into the bowels of the original building's foundation. The air was dank and moist, stacks and stacks of boxes formed canyon-like walls, spider webs caught in my hair and I was decidedly regretting entering such a spooky place. Iris moved ahead of us as though she knew where she was going and came to a door nearly hidden behind piles of boxes. "Oh," Agatha marveled at Iris, "That's the room where the trunk was found." Then, she turned and gave me such a look, all squinty-eyed like I had just snatched the trunk out from under her nose all over again. She heaved a
deep sigh and let it go when I bowed my head in contrition. Iris heaved boxes out of the way and Agatha intensified the atmosphere by noting, "I had to close it off a while ago because the other employees where complaining about getting strange feelings and hearing noises. There's nothing in there, really."

"Can you open it up?" Iris asked. "Of course," Agatha stepped forward and opened the door; "It's not locked." She stepped toward the center of the room to pull on the light cord and Iris and I followed her in. Just as the cord snapped off in her hand, the door swung shut behind me and we were suddenly in the dark. Agatha said, "Darn, Phyllis, open the door again so I can see to get this light working." I stepped directly back with my hand feeling for the door in the darkness and felt instead a cold stone wall. "Oh my, I can't find the door. Isn't that absurd?" Agatha suggested taking a few steps from side to side, which I was, of course, already doing. I was still bemused and only just considering a panic reaction when Iris cried out, "Look!"

I looked into the darkness and saw a light growing, a strange luminous shape, forming and swirling into the image of a face. Or I thought at first that it was a face. This was nothing like the apparition of Sarah. It was more holographic, more insubstantial and transparent so it was difficult to gather details. There was a shininess, a plasticity to the face that made me think it was a mask – a mask with elaborate extensions like a headdress of some kind. It spoke with an eerie, hollow voice:

"You have come but without a token from the creator. I cannot remain. Return tomorrow with something made by her hands. If you do not, I will not return."

Poof! It was gone. The bare light bulb overhead flickered on overhead and the door was right beside me! Agatha was absolutely thrilled and couldn't stop saying, "Oh! Oh!" Iris and I grinned at each other like fools. And, we all ended up having a group hug/happy dance before running up the stairs whooping and giggling like schoolgirls. It was hard to get Agatha to settle down enough to swear her to secrecy with mock stern voices. "Who would I tell?" She protested, "Everyone would think I'd gone as batty as--" "As me!" I finished the sentence for her and we all laughed again at the sheer marvel of it.

Driving back, Iris and I made plans go back tonight with Wes' statue because there is no doubt in our minds that the "creator" is Sarah. We are very excited by the prospect. She is going to send Chris and James over there today to set up equipment and get readings. Progress, my friends, progress!

Love,
Phyllis

Me thinks "the mask" will be ours soon...

Hopefully we can track down the wand/caduceus as well!
