So we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for that cube.

sorry, but i don't think that's the solve- all the other solves to these cards have been one word/number answers - nile, the phone number, libya, paint...
i think there's something hidden in the names of the computers that will give the final answer (like the hidden phrase in the wordsearch)

I've been collecting vintage computers for years, try as I might I haven't been able to get my hands on a difference engine but I've still managed to amass a pretty reasonable collection.
Cast your mind back a few years (or have a scout around your basement) and see if you can put names to these classic machines

Hee Hee - I'm sitting next to a Commodore 64, 5 Spectrums, a ZX81 - ohh and plenty of others not on the list...
So - I thought I'd get this puzzle easily - but not quick enough on the Cube!!

Don't think it helps at all but the years of release were:
Atari 2600 - 1977
Sinclair ZX81 - 1981
BBC Micro - 1982
Commodore 64 - 1982
NES - 1983
Apple IIe - 1983
ZX Spectrum - 1982
The Next Cube - 1988
Suppose we could narrow it down to month/year but wouldn't that depend to a degree on which country you were in?

You missed the Altair (which I think is actually an Altair 8800B) which was March 1976.
And, in case it's important, don't forget the VCS in the name of the Atari.

There's what looks like the faint outline of letters in box no 8 (the Spectrum). Possibly 'nts'. I'm not entirely sure if this is deliberate or not. Anyone else see this?

you're right james, looks like "ctr..." or "cfr" backwards, very faintly just above the keyboard in no.8... looks like it could be bleed-through from the back of a scan, but that might be intentional... also can someone post the number on the back of the cube in no.9? As that one has a link with the main game (it's called the cube) maybe there's something in that.
this card is worth 35 perplex points- only the flags and the heiroglyphs are woth more- so there is definitely more to it than just naming old computers
