[PUZZLE] e=mc cubed

WARNING: DEAD END

On the pastures of Whipsmart, one of the cows is holding a chalk board with the statement "e=mc CUBED". Anyone with even a cursory knowledge of recent science will know that e most certainly does not equal mc cubed but mc squared, so this started some alarm bells in my head.

e=mc cubed... we've been dealing with a different kind of 'e' before in relation to Perplex City, so maybe it's that e and not 'energy'. And perhaps mc is actually MC (Mind Candy/Mission Control).

So, we rearrange the statement:

e=mc 3 to MC= 3 _/e (cube root of e)

And get the following number: 1.395612425

On a leap of faith, add a zero at the beginning and ignore the decimal place and we get a phone number:

01395 612425

However, it doesn't work. "This phone number has not been recognised." It was possible the final '5' had been rounded up, so I tried the same number with a 4 at the end instead. No luck there either.

It seems too good to be a coincidence, though. I post this here so maybe someone can run with it and find the true answer. I'm sure there's something in this.

(BTW, sorry if this is posted improperly - in the wrong place or such - but I wasn't totally sure where was best)

01395 is the dialling code for exmouth in Devon - hardly puzzle capital of the world or a likely mirror for Perplex City. Very Happy

I read once that Einstien had trouble with relativity for a while and found that he had an error. His origional relativistic equation was E=MC 3

He then discovered his error and only then changed it to squared. Maybe the perplexians have so many cubes on the brain they haven't figure relativity out yet.

It's a good job we have dimensional analysis! Unless they have some different laws of physics over there (which I'm not dismissing), those cows are pretty dumb. Apart from the fact that they can write with chalk despite having hooves.

I'm thinking that its a pun,

First they are using the E number, which gave everyone trouble for quite a while.

Next MC is proabably a reference to Mind Candy

Then the Cubed thing is just because its the basis of the ARG.

Hmm...

I remember hearing that expression (e=mc cubed) somewhere else, apart from here. I'll see if I can find it when I'm home again...

Perhaps it's supposed to be some sort of reference to the fact that MC will be at E3?

Query - Is Mind Candy a creation for PC?

As they are down on the exhibition list for E3 in Los Angeles (?) but obviously you can't attend this exhibition unless you are part of the industry....! Seems a little odd.

Thanks,
Cara

I wouldn't say so.. you shouldn't make assumptions based on 3 being the same as ³. They are completely different.. they may look similar but they aren't.

E3 don't define themselves as relating purely to PC games, console games are there aswell.

The way E3 put it is anyone involved in the interactive entertainment industry, which args certainly are. This could mean that it even extends to interactive television.
