The two letters after AM look hebrew to me...or they could be normal letters, but printed badly just like the C in the beginning...

erm, october 2004?

1) if it is totally oog, why would someone get that and not do anything with it for that long, and it's a weird url to buy

2) if it was bought by someone OOG as a fake, how would they know back in oct 2004?

so, imho, there are 2 options:

1) it was bought by the PMs to become a IG site in the future,

or, more likely

2) it was parked by the PMs so noone could make a fake site on it in the future

My 2 cents Razz

Jeb

I thought it was weird too, but just checked with google and jugoslavija is the official spelling in their native language by the looks of it.

That is not Russian; in Russian, Yugoslavia would be written like this: Югославия. I think it's probably written in Serbian, which would make sense Smile

Also, here is the link to the scan of all the stickers: link.

[SPEC] Regarding Russian Text on Perplex City Sticker

One of you lot named just Toby sent me some Russian text on one of the stickers. I've just had a brief look at it (just come back from work) and here's my first impression of it.

Not all of it is in Russian or Yugoslavian text (in fact they use subtley different text anyway) and some of it is utterly bizarre.

The 'Jugoslavija' is simply a way of translating Yugoslavia from Cyrillic to Latinate, but unless I get more information regarding the contents of the sticker, I can't tell if it's OOG or something. It may just be the origin of the company that made the stickers.

There is proper Russian text on it, though the picture is cropped slightly so I can;t tell if it's one letter or another, for example :П and Л look the same if the bottom half is cropped

Anyway, here is the whole thing in it's Russian form: УГОСЛ or УГОСП, ВИЈА

Ј unfortuantly is not a Russian Cyrillic letter, so most likely the sticker orginates from the former Yugoslavian Republics.

What interests me most is the 4 unknown gibberish letters to the left of the above writing. Although one can make out a C, an A and an M, the other three letters are utterly bizarre, looking more like symbols then anything else.

Also, if it does indeed say УГОСП, if you pronounce that, it sounds very similar to Gospel! (The writing is pronounced oogosp.) Before you hound me for saying so, a lot of Russian words are similar to Latinate by pronouncing them, for example, the Russian for Toilet is too-a-lee-yet, which is French for Toilet.

I'll investigate more once I've finished my game of CS:S Razz

[EDIT: merged into existing thread. yanka.]

Embarassed ah didn't notice the thread

Is it just me or does the last character look like a bracket? A ] ?

Or perhaps it's the bad clarity of the text....

the last word is also Yugoslavia, but in Serbian/Bosnian Cyrillic. Not sure which. The middle "A" is missing.

the first part looks like "se...amn(b)" with bits removed. (that's my phonetic interpretation)

So Why Yugoslavia?? There isnt really any such place any more, is there? And what's this got to do with Perplexcity? I dont think it's a "made in yugoslavia" label : for a start it's unlikely that they were made in Yugoslavia. It would be Serbia, or Montenegro, or someplace. Secondly, it would be a very unusual sticker manufacturer that insisted that the country of origin should be hidden in the type of the sticker. You see it sometimes, usually tucked away on the back of things, on labels and so forth.
So: Unless this is a part of the font - it has been known that some of these lo-fi Fonts ship with little artifacts thrown in for texture... this doesnt seem to me, IMO, to be that either. The writing spans across too many letters for that to be a practical font texture. If, say, it were texture embedded in the letter C, and you happened to use a word with two C's in it, you'd be left with a right mess. If anybody knows the Font this is, we can double check this as fact.
So: If these points are true, this is either a Clue, or a Red Herring. But it is something. Something Confusing.
I don't think I've been particularly helpful in pinpointing what this something is, but I hope we can agree it is something nevertheless!
