The viscacha is just a chinchilla isn't it? In any case they're of the family "Chinchillidae".
In which case this link should assist you.
Edit:
If they're not the same, then which of the following is the mountain viscacha:
Northern viscacha
Southern viscacha
Wolffsohn's viscacha
Plains viscacha (I assume it's not this one)

Do they have to be internet sources? What level of education are you writing this for?

Well, I'm a librarian at Harvard's Comparative Zoology library, and I can pretty safely tell you that you're not going to find much worthwhile stuff on internet sites. I've been looking in some journals for stuff about the Mountain Viscacha, and everything I've found so far has been very technical. You might want to try finding a book called Grzimek's Animal Life Encyclopedia....

How great is this community, really? Someone asks a question about the Mountain Viscacha and we just so happen to have around someone who just so happens to be a zoology librarian.

Heh, I'm glad I could help. SO, TJ, did you ever find anything good?

I was thinking the exact same thing. What are the odds?
btw, if anyone needs any help with human environmental sciences I'd be happy to help (Essentially human impact on the environment, concentrating on land usage and non-native species introduction)

That's one of the fun things about ARGs, also - you never know what obscure piece of information is going to be needed to solve a puzzle. There are some people who wouldn't know a cipher if it bit them on the nose, but (to draw examples from past games) they know what lute tablature or Masonic sign language is.
