Project Gamelight Saw this mentioned over at ARGTalk, but they seem to have missed the good stuff and instead decided the important bit of the article was that it contained a picture of Dave's book. Um, huh?

While ARGs are still somewhat unknown to the general public, we think the launch of an online reality show based on ARGs will generate even more buzz around the subject. And as a reminder to marketers, remember that ARGs serve as a unique way to advertise and promote brands.
With my superior web snooping (ie plugging projectgamelight.com into my browser address bar), I discovered... you guessed it... http://projectgamelight.com/ I'm so good! heh.
Looks like Dave, Steve, and Groove Networks have something up their sleeves and they're not letting us in on it just quite yet. (jerks ) But, DAAAAAMN! This is going to be cool!

So does this mean we get to meet Matt Damon? Or Ben Affleck? Or does Steve = Matt Damon and Dave=Ben Affleck now?

Then they've jumped the gun, eh Tony? You know, this really is the reason why I've been endlessly postponing getting my hands dirty in the world of grassroots development.
Yep. Sure is.
Sounds great, though! I've requested more information so I'll let you know if and when it becomes available...

Szulborski and Matheny, along with Steve Peters, the founder and webmaster of ARGN, an ARG news site that serves as the hub of online ARG activity, have also recently teamed up with Microsoft subsidiary Groove Networks to create the ARG-based online reality show Project Game-Light. In the same vein as Project Greenlight, teams of game developers will submit ideas for ARGs. After choosing the three best submissions, viewers will be able to follow along online, watching the teams develop these games through outlets such as webcams, text messaging and mobile phone conversations.
There's so much information but I just can't wrap my head around, y'know, what it will actually be . Project Greenlight has a TV show that follows the winners' challenge in making their film, so I guess it makes sense to have the ARG version follow the PM's using online media. How will we be able to "sell" our ARG-concept to voters without (quite literally) giving the game away? How will the site follow the PM's without revealing all their plot twists in advance?
Only time will tell. And ohmygod, the winners are looking at being funded by the backers of The Beast, ILB (I think?) and slightly less illustriously, MSNfound...
EDIT: To register on the Greenlight project (and by extension, enter it) you must be a US resident. Something tells me this may also be the case for Gamelight... that said, they are asking for teams, so if anyone wants to dazzle the judges with a nearish-to-London member, PM me when the time comes!

Finally, I might see the realization of my long-awaited Garfield ARG. With my luck, though... ARGed: A Post-Nuclear Adventure will get the slot instead of me...
C'mon, what would you rather see in an ARG -- The antics of Odie and Jon, or melted-flesh zombie-types? It's not a hard decision.

Guyp: nope. We are all developing whether a project is greenlighted in this or not. Yours and everyone else that is willing to try their hand behind the curtain.
If only the 3 best submissions are picked to be followed, then countless others submitted will wither away or actually be completed in spite of a nay say? It is the essence of creativity to make the creative expression exist, rather than pandering it for prurient interest of what may not be your target audience....

Tony: I know, I was just jokin'... and justifying my own procrastination. This project might be doubly-productive - if they require a lot of plans / schedules / ideas from prospective PM's, hopefully those who don't win will have already done a lot of great early development stuff they can go on and make a game anyway! That they've actually, y'know, thought through .
