Yeah we've got Gabriella Petel winning left and right all of a sudden too. No one can believe it, and she must be under PCCG scrutiny. She's a cheat I tell you.

Madame Bianca doesn't seem to Mind, advocating cheating.

I think the Academy researchers discovered ceretin and other cognitive enhancers, but only released the watered down version to the public. Someone like Henrik fixes 'cover sheets' for shipping manifests and they make a mint on every new technology discovered - all the while maintaining a technologically superior position by revealing to the PC public (and alternative worlds) only what they want them to know/have.

Drugs and gambling are two vices that the PMs could easily utilize as a theme without the PC story becoming to 'seedy' for the mass-audience.

I think we have to crack a syndicate - not just an individual.

Which, if true, could mean that the Cube is feuling these technological advances. Without the Cube, they no longer have the licence to print money, hence why they want it back so terribly...

I doubt it though. Rolling Eyes

You know, according to the Berkshire-area formulation of "losing", "losing" as a result of someone else announcing they've "lost" isn't possible. Losing is something you have to do yourself. Otherwise, losing would in fact be winning, because by announcing you've "lost" everyone else would also "lose" moments later, returning you to the top of the metaphorical leaderboard.

I have to stop looking at this thread - I keep goddamn losing.

How can there be a leaderboard - do you include every person that's playing the game? If so, then it is only those people nearby to you that lose, and those out of earshot are OK.

Berkshire version? I live in Reading (tho I haven't lost in reading since the summer, all the Warwick RAGgers play, and there is one person who just can't stop thinking about the game I swear - we were in a cafe in amsterdam, he was almost passed out, then came out with "I losttt...." - jeez...)

Jeb

(PS since I hadn't explicitly said it - "I lost")

I play different versions with different people, so I get very confused. With us, part of the game is making other people lose by telling them that you've lost - the guy who got me into this (guess you know who I am now, if you hadn't worked it out before) sent a text to everyone when he lost, just to make sure we did as well, and with another variation, I have a friend who didn't like losing so much, so she wins every time. You can imagine a whole room of people groaning when someone loses, and one solitary cheer going up. Another bunch of friends I play it with give a ten minute grace period, but this rarely works online. Then again, losing with them has become synonymous with spotting innuendo in what people say. I lose a lot with them.

Anyway, to end this I have a cunning solution, and a reason to why I haven't lost. These forums are OOG. We never defined what game they were out of. Hence I declare them out of the game, at least until this thread ticks over a new page and we can read about ceretin without seeing posts about the game and losing the whole time.

Speaking of ceretin, maybe if you take it you have to fill your brain with something, and the challenge of remembering to forget something is pretty hard. Perhaps a side effect of taking it would be doing silly things like this.

*swears under breath repeatedly*

I didn't even get it the first time Jeb said he'd lost. I was still playing! I'd had a run of months since I last lost and now you've gone and blown it! It could have been over a year!

*swears under breath repeatedly again*

Incidentally, never mention the game on your own blog - you can be checking back to find out when someone's birthday was and make yourself lose from the past.....

OK, "I lost" refers to a fun but vague mindgame. The object of 'The Game' is to forget that it even exists. Everytime you remember 'The Game', you lose. Obviously, this is the kind of thing you need to clue your friends in on for it to be any fun - the idea of 'losing' is that you announce it to the group, or if you're feeling especially dedicated, give someone a call / text to let 'em know. The most common interpretation is that by announcing you've lost, everyone else remembers the game too and they lose also. In the variation my friends had, it didn't work like that - you couldn't lose just because someone else said they'd remembered the game, 'cos it seemed a little unfair.

PS: JebJoya - I'm from Basingstoke, a stone's throw from Reading! That said, I was actually introduced to the game by some girls at a party on the Oxford Road. Small world, innit?

GRATUITOUS APOLOGIES FOR THE THREADROT.

The "I lost" game

Your game sounds almost exactly the opposite of a game some friends of mine play. In their game, any time you remember the game, you say to someone else "I remember" and tell them when was the last time you "remembered" to them... You lose by being the person receiving the "remember" and you win by "remembering" to someone else first. It seems to work best if you do forget about it for a long time, and then "remember" when some one is least expecting it!
