And what about those that are at a higher level, but not obviously higher? I insist that beekeepers are all over the skill chart and it's pretty damn hard to say who should use handicaps and who shouldn't. I didn't even mention that some people rule at some gametype/map and don't do so well on others. What you're proposing will generate discussions ...

If you are getting owned, turn the handicap off. pretty simple. Basicaly this is what I do when playing with my friends on splitscreen. they dont play all that often and I compleatly own them. So I turn on a handicap because it is no fun for me or them. Then they start to learn the tricks and get better so I turn off the handicap or turn it down. Its pretty simple. It may take a bit of empathy to figure out, "oh hey im compleatly destroying everyone like i always do, maybe it would be more fun for all of us if i took a handicap"

*Grifter rubs his head and looks around for a sniper.... Seeing none around, he grabs a beer, picks up the remains of the soapbox and uses it to sit on at the fire with Ubercado.

"What's all the hubbub about?" Grifter asks Ubercado.

I don't know what people think about the combo, but I'm not totally sure if the majority is against the combo. I know Jinx, Grifter, Vector and I believe it's legit and I know INCyr disagrees with that. I don't think we can just plain say we should avoid it because some here believe it's "cheap" ...

I never said it wasn't legit. I just think its overpowered and has the potential to ruin the game, if it's not curtailed. It's way more powerful than any other combo, and if not checked, I see it becoming something you HAVE to play with to survive. Nothing else, sans sniper or rockets, has the ability to kill you faster, with as little defense against. Granted, that's my personal experience and opinion. If you've figured out how to defend against it, then good for you, because in all the times I've faced it, I've lost, no matter what strategy I've tried.

About making rules as to how we play... I'm completely against anything that dictates how one is allowed to play the game. If you want to snipe everyone within 5 seconds of their spawning, feel free to do so. Just know it's not going to make you popular, and likely people are not going to want to play against you anymore. If I wanted to be sniped every 30 seconds, I'd go play matchmaking. I play custom games to relax, not to get the same aggrivation.

I will state, if I'm not having fun playing in a game, for any number of reasons, constant spawn killing being one of them, I have no problem up and leaving, and I will do so if it gets to that point. I value my time much too much to spend it being frustrated and not having fun. Especially if the only reason is that "everyone does it in matchmaking." I'd like to think we're not lemmings, and that if everyone in matchmaking jumped off a bridge, that we'd be smart and independant enough to know better.

Just because you CAN, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

Thing is, people here are not rookies. They know all the tricks and maps. We got to a point where pretty much everybody is peaking already. I know I'm not getting better, and I'm not seeing people improving as much as I used to see, like Krystyn getting significant better or even Clayfoot. If some use handicaps, it won't be something temporary ...

When I play splitscreen, my friends don't play that often as well ... What I do, is play team games and my partner is the less-skilled guy. This is usually enough to balance the games, even though we still win 60-70% of the games. It's enough to have fun games! Oh, and handicaps on a 4-people game is easy to handle. Handicaps on a 16-player game, not so much!

I still think this won't help at all and will generate a lot of discussions ... If you leave it up to the person, some will use in the beginning, but when they realize said person is not using it, they will stop and eventually nobody will use it ...

Um ... I am not sure how to feel about this. Smile
I am still working my way around all of the weapons, and so my skill level goes up and down. Also, I don't play with you that much, waters!

That's exactly the point! It IS as powerful as rockets or swords! The only problem is that there are too many PP on the maps! If they reduced the number to 2 or 3/map and limited the number you could have at the same time, it wouldn't be that bad. Plasma Pistols need to be considered power weapons, almost as much as rockets/swords/snipers. If a team has the sword, sniper and rockets at the same time, nobody complains, because it's your fault that they managed to get all the power weapons. It should be the same with the combo. If the other team got all PP under their control, you go ahead and find a way to recover them. It's part of the game.

As all power weapons, the combo can be defeated! Either by hiding behind something to avoid the bolt or by attacking with 2 guys at the same time. I'm not saying you'll have 50% success rate, but then again, you don't have that kind of success when you face a rocket/sword/sniper guy ...

Well, even if people are improving, they are not improving at the same rate as before. And most improvement right now is coming from different strategies rather than better accuracy, if you allow me to separate like this ...

Sadly, this is true. We should do something about this, don't you think?? I might forget how to apologize to you ... Wink

I haven't been on much lately but I have personally never had a problem with the PP/BR combo or snipers per se. I agree the sniper is a bit overpowered for some of the bigger maps like Coag, Waterworks, and Containment but these maps have Banshees that if used properly can minimize the antics of even the best snipers. As for the PP/BR combo, I guess I've been lucky enough to never have run into a skilled user of this combo. I find that by simply moving the PP becomes virtually worthless. Maybe I'm lucky but unless I'm standing still a plasma charge rarely hits its mark. (I know I have no ability to wield it with any accuracy) Maybe in close combat it is tougher to defend against. I guess ignorance is bliss because I simply don't notice them that often. (Maybe that explains my high death counts.)
As for spawn killing, I agree matchmaking is the best place for such antics. Even in matchmaking I am not a huge fan of the tactic especially when teams are unbalanced (7 v 8, 6 v 8, or the dreaded 1 v Cool

hmmm. Re-reading my words, I think I wasn't clear enough. What I meant is that I'm not seeing improvements like Krystyn's and Clayfoot's improvement. They improved significantly during the first 3-4 months. I'm not seeing those huge leaps anymore ...

Hey, as long as you do apologize, it's all good! Wink

"No, thanks. I gotta ketchup..." Grifter says as he finishes his beer and looks looks around for another one. He sees the sniper rifle that Waters presented earlier and deciedes to shoot the beer can for target practice.

"I remember back in the day when we used to play for fun.... It was fun back then." Grifter says.
