He asks us if he can count on us to be there at midnight... I think I piped up something like, "I think this morning has proven that we might not always puncutal, but we're certainly determened... So we'll be here."

And we're all kind of looking rather pouty I think, so then he says to us... "You've come this far... Go farther." And then he leaves.

I wanted to shout, "What does that even mean?!"

Either the blame or the credit goes to me I guess, I don't know which... I came up with the idea that it meant we had to go back to the party. Recon was most likely what we would come up with. But if we were very cleaver, we might be able to nab the card and hand it over to Myke at midnight... And that would have been cool...

We get to the party and target on the correct A3, which by the way is totally AWSOME looking.

Goons arrived, we were alarmed, and it was decided that we should
all go back and meet with our contact to report our findings and get a
better idea of what the plan was... Only problem, nobody appeared to
have known that the party was considered by event staff to be "off
site". The guards knew this very well it seems, and since there was
no re-entry into the venue... We were stuck. Mad rush to contact our
contact proceed... Nothing of which seems to have gotten through.

Hilarity insues.

It was such an insane night, but I think we all did our best in trying to figure out what we were supposed to do. It was just an entire series of events that made the mission not work the way it was set-up, which I think mainly stemmed from the fact the mission was taking place in such a huge and uncontrolled environment -- riots, guards that didn't know better, some that did, not having effective communicaton, etc. I certainly don't think any one thing or person can be blamed. At the end of the day, or maybe it should be start of the morning, I can say that I think we all did the best we could do given the circumstances, and that it just goes to show that chaos will always win over even the best prepared plans.

You guys were expected to follow a script you hadn't even read, and Nisha and Ian bailed at the first sign of things not going to plan. Not a very good advert for LRR Wink

We'll just have to see how things pan out now - it looks like Nisha is feeling pretty sheepish.

I was just reading the IRC chat and I notice some people were wondering about how we got into the party, so I'll clarify;

We didn't sneak into the party at all, we walked in the front enterance by showing our wristbands. The fights were going on elsewhere, the party venue itself was rather deserted. We were not the only "guests" there, but it was dead.

Thanks for the posts.
Was the fifth retriever press or not?
I also can't figure out why at such a large event they would not have an ingame handlers watching you. Maybe that would be to much like hearding cats.

Yep, and I believe there was a difference between wristbands and passes, because I saw a few people flashing actual postcard sized passes to get in -- it seemed like the wristbands would get you in for sure, while the passes were questionable. I could be wrong though.

If Laura had been a plant, she would have dissapeared on us when the mission was aborted.

And, as you can see from the photo, she was there when they finally kicked everybody out of the party.

As for whether or not she was press. I couldn't say.

photos from the Op

HHM's online gallery is awesome. Here are a few more photos from the OP, and the Coachella 5's special training exercises leading up to the ops.

Yep, I don't have anything as good as Jane or HMM, but I'll just toss in the few things I have for completeness. Very Happy

Puzzle cookies!?! Do the chocolate chips spell out a message in morse code? Or do the number of chips in each cookie correspond to a factor of e? Or maybe they're cut-out cookies, and the shapes form a rebus!!!

...Yeah, I know. You probably mean cookies you got as a reward for solving a puzzle. But you have to admit that the idea of puzzle cookies is way cool. If I ever run an ARG, I'm definitely going with a sugar-laced trailhead. Very Happy

The typical Retriever package - Treo 650, BT headset, and the pin. I haven't had time to dig through the packaging yet though to see if there's anything hidden. Wink
