SOLVED [Puzzle] CQt606£

New puzzle at:

http://www.imfriendly.co.uk/messages/4586671.htm

Using:

ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ
Q?7?I9?GO??8?642?T?SBVC?£?

We get:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
WARNINY
I think actually its supposed to be Warning though!

I think we need to review our code deciphering! Laughing

I have counted 15 individual characters in the picture, although some of the characters look the same but mirrored or reversed. Something isnt right there though, 15 different letters out of 20?

I have also compared it to the alphabet found on leos blog but its not clear enough to get a match.

****** *** ** *** ****** - anyone got any ideas?

considering the date, I'm currently working on the spec that
Spoiler (Rollover to View):

the first word is "tonite" -- the T's match up, at least.

That would make it

TONITE __E T_ ___ _T__T_

TONITE abE Tc dea fTghTi

They could also be runes, as in literally translated (not just subtitution). But most runes I've seen (Futhark, germanic, etc) feature the center bar, but not many separated offshoots (like the dashes).

Possibly Cuniform?

The only problem I am having is that the top row Ts are quite clearly the same, wheras the other Ts have the crossbar considerably lower...

Runes?

Based on the month names in Zoe's blog, I looked at runic alphabets at http://www.omniglot.com/writing/runic.htm

There are some similarities, but I didn't see any obvious contender.

Hey, what about Ogham? Just an idea...

I checked it out, there are quite a few similarities, but no characters in Ogham (that I could find) have seperate marks.

SIDE NOTE: (These different threads kind of confuse me, I'm not sure where this should go. Trout me?) Did the sidebar on the left always say access-granted when we logged in as Veo?

Yep Ronin.

Always said "granted", it was one of the few quirks that I noticed. But out of curiousity, (and for lack of redundancy) why?

the variations on the t's (or rather t shaped symbols)
seem to be very similar to
the Hungarian runes from the site
that asimy gave us
check it out
http://www.omniglot.com/writing/hungarian_runes.htm

I knew I recognized those runes from somewhere. So I dug out my old notebook, the one I keep all the clues I get from when I play those adventure games, and I found this page from "Missing: Since January"

http://www.demagia.net/corne.html

Take a look at the symbols on the number table -- they look *very* similar to our message!

edit: here's my attempt at a translation:

"11 2220 2200 2000 11 6005
55 6 6005
22 60
1130 2 55
4000 22 700 22 605"

No, I don't know what it means, either =(

That's awesome work! Very Happy

Looks like this is half the answer. Ooh, that's a big - ass number, I guess a simple letter/number substitution is out then Razz

Hmmmmmm....

Only thing that's slightly worrisome is that some of the characters don't match up quite correctly, but I like your interpretation of what to do there. Smile

Argh so many big numbers!

/brain meltage...

OK si was thinking about all the scrawled runey type jpgs we have received so far and remembered I had forgotten one. Below is a list of where they are all located:

(The one i had forgotten at the top, im guessing this could be a key to the solve, but i cant get a clear enough copy)

http://www.imfriendly.co.uk/messages/909sg1.jpg

http://www.imfriendly.co.uk/leo666/909SG3.jpg

http://www.imfriendly.co.uk/CQT6O6%A3

As you can see the picture title CQT6O6%A3 has changed. It still reads the same though, as in hex %A3 translates to £.

on the subject of runes...

Whilst on the subject of runes the background image from the spam mail is this:

You can clearly see smudged symbols similar to our runes above and below the words fifth and soon. The interesting thing is that here we have repeat runes in conjunction with repeat letters ( 'f' and 's')

Do we have the begginings of a key perhaps? Especially if you cross reference it with the alphabet thing we found before:

Perhaps its not all in the numbers, and maybe it will need ROTing to make sense?

Just another possible avenue of reserch...

Quote:
[11:44] Zoe: hey russell
[11:45] Zoe: im kinda worried

[11:46] Zoe: think back aswell as forward
[11:46] *** "Zoe" signed off at Fri May 06 11:46:47 2005.

I have tried flipping the runes already, then wondered if you are supposed to read the lines once flipped from right to left or maybe read alternate lines backwards and forwards?

Just caught her on IM:

Quote:
[14:16] Russell Unfiction: Hiya Zoe
[14:16] Zoe: hey!
[14:16] Russell Unfiction: sorry i keep missing you
[14:16] Zoe: thats ok
[14:17] Russell Unfiction: how is veo?
[14:17] Zoe: i havent seen him for a while
[14:17] Zoe: i was supposed to meet him yesterday but he never showed
[14:18] Russell Unfiction: where? do you think he is still safe?
[14:18] Zoe: i dont know, i think he is

[14:20] Zoe: oh me too....that why i sent it to him & you ....i found another one today stuck to a telephone box
[14:20] Russell Unfiction: do you have a copy of it?
[14:20] *** Zoe is trying to send you "justfoundthis.jpg":

[14:22] Russell Unfiction: when you say phone box, do you mean the on in the webcam? or was it in pemesent
[14:22] Zoe: oh no it was in pemesent
[14:23] Russell Unfiction: have you seen any other images lately? I noticed on leos blog that there were some in the background, but its very faint to make out
