[PRESS] "The Rise of ARGs" by Adrian Hon

I didn't see this posted anywhere and I hope this is the appropriate place for this.

Gamasutra has an article titled "The Rise of ARGs" that appears to be written by Adrian Hon. I think you may need to register, but www.bugmenot.com has some pre-made logins that work. Wink

Good article, but nothing no-one involved in ARGs wouldn't already be very up-to-date with...

buff I hear ya, but I think the article was exactly written so those outside of the genre could see the value in ARGs and their value, specifically to those looking for alternate advertising routes (since the traditional ones are becoming less and less valuable and um *cough* they suck *cough*) I know you weren't being critical, but I figured I should spit that bit out just in case...

The cool thing that this leads me to think about is this: Imagine the world did come over to the "ARG Side" *giggle* and that ARGs were a mainstream (or to go totally off the deep end: the norm) form of advertising... The future of advertising would mean tailoring the ARG so specifically... you'd essentially be choosing your advertising. Which is a cool concept to me, at least. The future of advertising is definitely in the "choose your style" mode, as we all know the mass-production model just isn't reaching the nuveau-niche as it once did. Even viral advertising's days are numbered IMO... Anyway, I really didn't mean to thread-jack this with my own views on advertising trends, but to get things back on track:

I loved the article. I loved the optimistic attitude Adrian displayed in regards to the value of ARGs to branding (without resorting to branding) and I especially loved how he snuck in the history, so those who weren't in the know could dig around for themselves. Spot on, Adrian! Keep up the good work! Now, if he would just get to work on this obviously underprepared project of his called "Perplex City" or something... Laughing

EDIT: Ok, so while I don't condone the regular practice of having to spell out sarcasm, I figured this one was too dangerous... so yeah. In regards to Perplex City, I was joking. (I feel dirty now.)
