Oooh, CJ, I *do* like the idea of little ID thingies with people's handles AND their real names on them! I always forget who *I* am supposed to be at these things, never mind everyone else.

I second that. I think the tags are a great idea. Assuming everyone else approves, is someone going to be printing these up for everyone, or is it a do it yourself thing? I'm up for whatever.

what does everyone think about having some ID cards for dinner on friday night? here's what i whipped up, it has your icon, screenname, realname, and a space for any other online handles you might have (gamertag, livejournal, etc) print size is 3" x 4"

the Photoshop template: (right click, save as)
http://coffeejedi.darkimage.net/ilovebees/id-card.psd

if someone out there wants to take my basic idea, and you know... make it look GOOD or something, that'd be cool Smile

That looks pretty nice. My computer lacks photoshop though, and I don't trust the color printer...could be a problem. I can always dig out my CGE tag, if I really need to, but that isn't as cool.

i figured everyone would just edit the doc and print it out themselves
for those without color printers, i'll make a B+W version
for those without Photoshop, i'll make a JPEG version

Ummmm... how does one go about editing a jpeg w/o photoshop?

The only picture file I know how to edit is .bmp Sad

Anyone want to be kind and make me one?

Edit: I'd also suggest putting location (i.e. where are you from) on there. We're going to have so many people from all over the place, it'd be cool to see where everyone is actually from.

How about PNG format? I opened CoffeeJedi's file in Macromedia Fireworks, and saved it back as png format.

Clayfoot, I had no idea that the Blue Line is running only every half hour out of O'Hare. I really really doubt that that's the case. Hmm, I am gonna take a look at the transit website. It's more like every 20 minutes in my experience ...

Just whipped up mine, and it looks good. Thanks, Coffeejedi!

9300 W. Bryn Mawr
Rosemont

Ending: (Fogo de Chao)
661 N. La Salle
Chicago

When:
Date: May 13, 2005
[My arrival time] will be 12:30 PM

Options:
walk no more than: 1/2 mile (the default)
prefer a trip that: is quickest (the default)

ok, .bmp then, that makes more sense anyway, no lossy compression to get in the way
i would suggest downloading Paintshop Pro(free trial) or the Gimp(free as in speech) if you don't have Adobe Photoshop

if you have a nice hi-res version of the Signal Corps logo, send it to me with whatever info you want and i'll print you an ID card

and i like the idea of putting the location! i'm going to change mine, just put it over at the extra info area

Hey guys, if'n y don't mind, I'm going to take that PSD and improve it a little - lighter background for printing in B/W, blank spots for those without photoshop, etc.

Meanwhile, Rufo, I'll be arriving with you, my intention is to get a locker at Union if I need to, drop off anything I don't want to carry with me, and pick it back up when I take the train back (or if I get a ride back) to the hotel. I don't intend to stop at the hotel, likely, until the end of the night. I've already paid fro the room, so they shouldn't yank it.

Nametags redux

Here you go, these nametags are made to be printed on, light for regular pens, and dark for gel pens and the like.

I'll also upload the PSD, and you can just edit it if you have photoshop to put in your info. Smile

I'm going to use my actual colors from my H2 icon on my tag, but if people just want to use the B/W version on there, that's cool. Or put your face on it. Or your favorite LJ icon. Whatever. Smile

One more thing: I'm including the PSD labelled "decision" because I thought it was hilarious to have a nametag with the phrase "MAKE YOUR DECISIONS ACCORDINGLY". Some people might not want that. *grin*

Update: Why won't it allow my PSD extension? I'm renaming them to .TXT, just remove that part if you're going to use them.

UpdateUpdate: I'm adding mine, so you can see what I'm envisioning, more or less.

Clayfoot:

See, that's where the trip planner can be sorta stupid. The Chicago bus will slow you down. Take the Blue Line all the way in to Clark and Lake, and then walk up to the surface, to La Salle, and take the bus north.

I might be wrong, but I think there's even a stop right in front of the restaurant. You're gonna look for the 156 bus, which goes both directions, so be sure to catch the one goin' over the Chicago River. Smile

ETA: Generally, I think you'll be OK, perhaps a little late for Fogo (checking in at the hotel first, I mean), but you can always call and let us know where you are, too! We will save a seat for you - I am sure we will be there a little while, as there is much meat to consume.

Oh yeah! Ask Weephun! The key when you go to a Churrascaria is to take your time and keep eating! Nice and Slow! I stopped eating last night, so I can have my money's worth at Fogo!! Laughing

Clayfoot, if you want to go straight to Fogo, you can put your suitcase in my car. If you don't need for the rest of the day, you can get it back after Too Much Light ...

For people wanting to go to the Museum of Science and Industry on SATURDAY, here is my proposal:

Meet on the steps near the main entrance between 10:30 and 11:00 AM.
Admission will be $9 for General, and then the Game On exhibit is $5 additional. We can buy tickets for that exhibit as we pay our general admission, natch.

Sound good? Excellent. The museum does open at 9:30 AM, but! For those of us who have attended Too Much Light the night before, we'll need a bit more time to rouse ourselves and make it out into the world. Smile

Too Much Light, for a FRIDAY night, needs to be a 10:20 PM arrival time. We'll likely be standing outside, in line. It's possible the line will be let partially indoors, in which case we could be on the stairs, or up on the landing on the second floor. If you do not get there by that time, you may not receive a token. If you do not receive a token, you can't get in.

Please don't be late. Smile I'd hate to leave anyone out in the wilderness of Chicago because of a few minutes of time. No, we CANNOT grab tokens for our friends. No, we CANNOT reserve tickets ahead of time.

That's just the nature of the beast.
