Yes, please allow us time for adequate caffeination. Very Happy

Sounds good to me, Krystyn. Do you have a guess how long we'll spend there? I'm not too good at judging that kind of thing; I spent an entire day in the Royal Ontario Museum without even noticing, and that was without going into the premium exhibits or, for that matter, eating at lunch time.

Too Much Light, for a FRIDAY night, needs to be a 10:20 PM arrival time.

And it doesn't look like there's much slack time there either.

The museum closes at 4 on Saturdays, from what I can gather at the website, so you can stay that long, if you like! Er, in other words, I have no idea! At least a few hours.

We have Lincoln Tavern's dining room in trendy Wicker Park to relax in from about 6 PM onwards, so you can take your time getting from the Museum to come hang out there. There's plenty of places to grab a bite to eat in that area, so if you're not up for beef sandwiches and Polish sausage and a few other lunch items (like chili), you may wish to check out some of the other spots around!

I LOVE:
Silver Cloud (Damen and Wabansia) -- they have frito pie! and froo-froo martinis! and a really nice lemon pepper chicken dinner.

Pacific Cafe (Damen, just north of North Ave.) -- Sushi!

Bluefin (North Ave., just east of Damen) -- Sushi!

Feast (Damen, right across the street from Pacific Cafe) -- Tasty dinners, decent bar, from what I can tell

Penny's Noodles (Damen, just south of North Ave.) -- cheapish asian noodle spot, yum yum

papajin -- (Milwaukee Ave., just southeast of North Ave.) I've never been here, but apparently it's decent Chinese food!

Absinthe Cafe (next to Bluefin! entrance on the alley) -- French cuisine, a bit pricier than cheap, and although I've never been there, I have heard great stuff.

Those are just a few of the dining options in the area. Lincoln Tavern is for general hangingness and possibly listening to portions of the radio play, reminiscing, catching up with each other.

Karaoke that evening will likely be around 9 or 10 PM, at Triad.

Triad
1933 S. Indiana Ave.
312-225-8833

We may wish to coordinate car travel to that location, but we can also simply hop on the Blue line, take that to a stop which will allow us to switch to the Red line, and then we get off at Cermak/Chinatown, and walk up to the restaurant.

The restaurant is on a northeast corner of an intersection, with large windows, and a white sign with the restaurant's logo in dark red. Smile

At 10:30, I may have to be late, depending on whether my dear woman's train gets in on time or not (9:30, I think). If it turns out that way, I'll just do that and catch up with folks.

Points of interest for the neighborhood in which Lincoln Tavern is located:

At Honore and Milwaukee (south of North Ave.) there is a boarded up shop across the side street from Burger King. This was the location they used for the record shop in High Fidelity. They also mention the Double Door in that movie, which is right up the street at the big intersection of Milwaukee/North/Damen.

A few doors down from Absinthe Cafe and Bluefin, on North Ave., is a larger brick building with a Cheetah Gym inside ...

Sigh.

Back in MY day, that used to be a wonderful coffee shop called Urbus Orbis. A few years ago, it was used for the Real World Chicago residence.

A bit further east on North Ave. is a vetrinary hospital where I once got a flat tire. That detail, upon further reflection, may not be of interest to you. If that is the case, I regret the inconvenience.

Is anyone staying at the Hyatt O'Hare plan on attending the Museum? It'd be much more efficient than having to get picked up.

Karaoke at 9-10 sounds fine to me-I wouldn't mind spending some time until then at the con, and with a couple buddies.

I'm planning on going to the museum, but alas, I have no car either.

SkyBruin, can we call upon the mighty powers of your van for this?

Omigosh, people, easy-peasy:

Walk 0.1 mile NE from O'HARE AIRPORT to O'HARE CTA (BLUE - O'HARE)
Take CTA BLUE LINE TRAIN (TO FOR)
Depart: O'HARE CTA At 09:37 AM
Actually, it's more like, you'll be going to the Rosemont stop, yes? Yes.

Arrive: WASHINGTON/DEARBORN CTA At 10:18 AM
Transfer
Walk 0.1 mile E to WASHINGTON & STATE
Take CTA BUS # 6 JACKSON PARK EXPRESS SOUTHBOUND
Depart: WASHINGTON & STATE At 10:23 AM
Arrive: 57TH ST & 57TH DR At 10:50 AM
Walk 0.2 mile SE to MUSEUM OF SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY

It's up to you all, of course, whatcha wanna do, but in a pinch, this'll get you practically door-to-door service.

Just as a thought for folks: A three-day CTA pass is $12. That'll cover a blueline + transfer in and out of the city, plus whatever other transportation you may need. I plan on picking up a five-day, as I'll be staying till Monday evening and that way I won't have to fumble around with bus fare, transfers, worrying about change, covers me in case I'm an idiot and take the wrong bus, etc.

Meanwhile, Rufo, I'll be arriving with you, my intention is to get a locker at Union if I need to, drop off anything I don't want to carry with me, and pick it back up when I take the train back (or if I get a ride back) to the hotel. I don't intend to stop at the hotel, likely, until the end of the night. I've already paid fro the room, so they shouldn't yank it.

Good idea - I hadn't thought of getting a locker. That's probably what I'll wind up doing as well. Think they'll have one of a size enough to throw in an average sized bag of some sort, or should I bring something small enough to throw in a teeny locker?

Although, looking at Amtrak's website, it doesn't look like Union station is open 24 hours... Penn Station in NYC is open 24h and it reflects that on the Amtrak website, whereas Union Station seems to close at about 10:30pm? If so that's far too late to grab our bags after the show...

Oh man, rufo, thanks for the info about the 3-day passes! Yes! It's a good value, I think, for that very reason: you can goof up and not worry about paying extra to get around.

Thank you thank you thank you -- I kept meaning to post about that (even though it's detailed at the transit website), but it kept slipping my mind.

Oh yeah! Ask Weephun! The key when you go to a Churrascaria is to take your time and keep eating! Nice and Slow! I stopped eating last night, so I can have my money's worth at Fogo!! Laughing

Ah, the jealousy!!! But yah, I think I went to about 5 Churrascarias during my 2 weeks in Brazil. I must have gained 10 lbs at least. Embarassed Arrive hungry, start with a light salad bar (just enough to get the stomach prepped, not near enough to fill it to any degree but you MUST try the cheese bread and fried bananas), sit back, relax, enjoy and let the meat come.

Oh man have I been a lurker lately.

I think it's gonna be a miracle if I get in my car tommarrow and start driving. It's amazing how compelled I am to come meet all you people. I hope I make it.

The van will be available and I plan to head out to the museum that day as well. So you can use Krystyn's wonderful CTA directions or brave the streets of chicago with me(muahahahaha).
