Hippopotamus and highlighter are not alphabetical either
And Highlight is to put in a strong light, while dark is well... the opposite. The question is binary, maybe the answer is Yes or No.
But the cards are meant to be solved individually AND as a gestalt.
FWIW the words in the left column seem to be:
Hilarious
Hill
Hillbilly
Hillock
Hillwalking
Hilly
Hilt
Him
Himself
Hind
Hind
Hinder
Hinder
Hindi
Hindmost
Hindquarters
Hindrance
Hindsight
Hinduism
Hindustani

I hadn't considered that there may be more to this than the multiple choice answers- but it's worth more points than the whipsmart wordsearch, which had a "second level" and maybe even a "third level"... So i guess there's more to this than meets the eye.
can't think what it is though!

Besides the incorrect alphabetizing, the headers claim to list "dark -- darknet", which is also odd. (as I'm sure we've all noticed.) The thesaurus below makes some sense, in that there are 2-in-1 combined dictionary/thesaurus reference sources. The thesaurus entries also seem to follow the 'hi-' dictionary entries.
So basically what I'm saying, I suppose, is that I have nothing substantial to add

I am self confessedly paranoid, and very very new to all of this (approiximately 1 hour). But and I just want to get this out of my system.
On this page, some person pointed out the atist's name looked like an ambigram of anna. Some other person on http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=154964#154964a
has asked whether a list of names is familiar, one being anna. Am I being overly paranoid?

You have already posted this once.. you don't need to post it again!

I'm not sure how that is exactly paranoid in the typical sense. but the popular speculation as of now is that the names kurt, von, tippy, anna, all that gang, are something like puzzle scribes at the academy. Their jobs are to write the puzzles which appear on the cards. Maybe.
You're not paranoid, but you havent exactly hit on anything new either. That's ok .. keep digging

wordspy.com "topwords" Hi everybody,
I'm very very new to this, so I might be doing this wrong but:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
all of the words on the card appear on the "topwords" at wordspy.com (www.wordspy.com/topwords.asp ). I'm not sure if the list updates itself automatically, but the page seems to indicate that it doesn't. that seems to imply that the five words each have a number associated with them. maybe.
okay. its my first post ever, sorry if it's not helpful. :/

Acutally, the list says it updates every seven days. So if people start using that to find the meanings in order to solve the puzzle, those words would jump in rank.

Actually if you look closer still you'll see that the "last 7 days" is "June 7, 2004 to June 13, 2004". This is long before that puzzle came to light. Good spot danomatic! That has got to be the way to the solution. Its too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence!

Indeed, and the fact (that I've only just noticed) that the card is called WordSpy...

Still not sure what 'solution' this gives us...for a start, what bearing does it actually have on selecting the correct multiple choice answers in the first place?

Maybe the puzzle is just knowing to use Word Spy to find the words. I mean, it *is* the name of the card, and the definitions are exact matches.
The list of top 100 words on the Word Spy site: it hasn't updated since June last year, which could make it a viable clue. The five words on the card are in the same order in the list, positions #6, 10, 44, 54, 61. Maybe this means something?

Anything to do with the dates posted?
I'm appalling at number puzzles so wouldn't even know where to start - I'm more of a wordsmith but there appears to be no clear word puzzle. The only thing that might be of any use that I can see are the dates? Anyone played with these yet? That would mean that yes there was a reason that the card and the site have them in a particuar order? i.e. you put them in a string and do domething mathsy with them?
If I am a buffoon I do apologise. Feel free to pelt me with something, preferably soft.
