OPEN LETTER FROM A CONERNED CITIZEN

READ THIS OPEN LETTER FROM A CONERNED CITIZEN

http://www.aglauranj.org/openletter.html

Quote:
Dear Residents of Aglaura,

I hope that you will protest any development in your area of the Pine
Barrens. It is your duty to future generations to protect the unique
ecology under your care. The importance of the Pine Barrens begins with
your water. The pines root system is an integral part of filtering the
Aquifers from which you pump your water. Removing any trees will further
hamper an already over loaded system. In addition to the current
pollutants effecting the area, NJ and LI, which share a large part of
the Pine Barrens, are former farming regions that have left major damage
through pesticide poisoning that the trees will probably need to work
centuries to eliminate.

To quote the NJ Pinelands Commission, "The Pinelands is our country's
first National Reserve and a U.S. Biosphere Reserve of the Man and the
Biosphere Program. This internationally important ecological region is
1.1 million acres in size and occupies 22% of New Jersey's land area. It
is the largest body of open space on the Mid-Atlantic seaboard between
Richmond and Boston and is underlain by aquifers containing 17 trillion
gallons of some of the purest water in the land. In 1979, our state
formed a partnership with the federal government to preserve, protect
and enhance the natural and cultural resources of this special place.
Today, with the Pinelands Comprehensive Management Plan, the region is
protected in a manner that maintains its unique ecology..."

The negative effects of development in the Pine Barrens doesn't stop
with the water. The Pine Barrens are home to rare flora and fauna. Any
fourth grader in you community can tell you the importance of protecting
your unique species from extinction. The Pine Barrens in their current
state are more valuable to local economy in terms of natural beauty to
visiting hikers and those seeking refuge from the over development in
many areas of your state.

Stand up and say no to your mayor. Attend the meeting Tuesday night.
Demand environmental studies. Protest Monday morning at the site. Save
your precious resource by stopping the development. It belongs to you.

Sincerely,
Barbara Mann

Just to let you know, I sent that in to Sam. I wonder what would happen if they got more in the same tone?

Barb, it's a wonderful letter.
