Email Iris the fire, They are going to the Pine Barrens

Dear Roxanne and Sunny,

Have I mentioned to you both how much I have appreciated your support these last few months? It amazes me when I look back and see just what has happened and how much I have grown and changed as both an investigator and a person. For all the grief, I guess in the end I am better for having gone through it

Anyway, I wanted to write you as soon as I could to let you know that things, bad things, are happening here in town. Did you hear about the fire at the library? Can you imagine the damage that would have caused if I had not been compelled to return and attempt to contact Sarah with her statue?

But, I am pleased to report that something good did come out of the damage. Mrs. Dobbs has postponed the demolition for at least a short while. She has to deal with the fire investigation and take care of the damage, so she decided it would be best to wait a bit, though she refused to tell me exactly how long it would be.

To say that this news brought tears to my eyes would not be an
understatement. I spent the weekend thinking about how to stop Mrs. Dobbs and every time I thought I had an answer, Phyllis or the boys would shoot it down for one of a number of reasons, usually because it would not work.

I spent a few hours pacing before everyone else went to bed and then I grabbed the statue and snuck out to my car. The short drive to the library was horrible. I kept expecting a DEG to jump out at me and wrestle me to the ground, so I parked a few buildings down from the library and walked the rest of the way. As I walked I tried to concentrate on everything around me and, of course, wound up scaring myself silly every time a sound occurred nearby or a shadow moved.

By the time I got to the library, I was so anxious that it took me a few
moments to comprehend that the glow I was seeing through the nearest window was not normal. As I watched I could see the glow grow until the flames became visible through the glass as it crept high enough to be seen from my vantage point. Luckily I had carried my cell phone and called 911 right away. Do you know that the fire investigator and the police all wanted to know what I was doing there holding the statue? I suppose it did look rather odd, what with my standing there watching the fire in Wes's shop … holding the same statue. I think they are beginning to wonder just why I carry the statue around their town at night!

Anyway, I know I will have to return to the library soon, perhaps even tonight if fate does not intercede. I feel positively energized today! Last night I had the wildest dreams (which for me are downright bizarre, as my dreams are always wild) and I just know I am close to having a breakthrough with Sarah. I know that a little more time and patience will gain me a true and lasting communication link with her. She is so close that I can almost feel her with me as I write this. My friends, something is about to happen, I just know it! Gosh, I feel like giggling, if you can believe it!

Phyllis just came in. She wants me to go with her and a coalition of town
people out to the Pine Barrens to try and confront the Mount Analogue people. I guess her phone calls to the Mayor have been ignored and believe me when I tell you that you do not want to ignore Phyllis when she is in this mood! I just hope that everyone stays calm. I can only imagine the havoc that will happen if something goes awry and there is a fight between the Marzanos and the town folk. I will help, of course, but I would prefer non-violence any day.

Iris

PS: I forgot to tell you that I spoke to both Sam and Wes recently. Sam
is/was going to try and help me today with the whole library renovation fiasco and Wes called to say that he was alright and would be in touch with me soon, though when I tried to ask him questions he shushed me and said that he could not speak of anything else. He sounded odd. I hope he really is ok.

AND THEN SHE SENT THIS

Oh! Phyllis has her hair all done up and is wearing jeans and hiking boots
for the long trek out to the Ashram. She just came in to tell me to be ready in a few minutes because she wanted to stop and pick up some people to ride with us out to the Pine Barrens.

Imagine Phyllis dressed up like some sort of elegant green party activist.
The only thing better would have been to have her wear a flannel shirt, but it is too warm for that today.

Ok, got to go. Pray for us that we come back safe. I am not getting a good feeling about this at all. Phyllis is so upset that I fear she will not see any danger even if it is lit up with neon lights. I will have to try to stick to her side like glue, just in case.

Iris

Email Iris Fears for Their SoulsWhat she felt at the barrens

Dear Sunny,

Goodness, you do not have to thank me. I am, after all, a professional and would not be walking within the light if I did not take care of those I am responsible for, now would I? Granted, it has come to my attention that when I trance I am not in control of myself, but that is more of a professional disability than a character flaw.

I am sure that your dreams about the Pine Barrens are symbolic of the turmoil we are all faced with now. There are things out in those pines that are far worse than the Jersey Devil. Far worse.

Phyllis was so upset about everything that happened out there. During the drive back she began to shake and then, finally, to cry. Although I think she did not tell us everything, what she did say about her confrontation with Don was enough to send chills up and down my spine. There is something definitely wrong with the man, Sunny. I tried to explain to her that she has to stay
away from him, but she just will not listen.

Sunny, there was so much happening and I was not able to get close enough to be sure, but something is just not right about the people that were there. I mean, the DEG's were familiar and strong; their presence was unmistakable in the way that they always give me shivers of premonition. Don was in his glory and had you looked at his aura as I did, you would have seen him blazing with power, as if he were transmitting electricity through and out of his body. I could not look directly at him with the amount of power he was exhibiting at that moment.

But Sunny, I am deathly afraid. I have to reach Sarah and I have to do it
soon or I fear for what will happen. Something is wrong; something that I cannot explain to myself, let alone put into words to you, but here I will
give it a try. Have you ever met someone and gotten an instant feeling from them? A sense of who or what they are? You get that from everyone you meet, right, whether your first impressions are right or wrong, you get something, yes? Imagine my distress when there was nothing to be felt or sensed from the two men from Mount Analogue! It was as if they were not there! What could this mean, Sunny? I have never felt a void like that before. It was as if there was nothing, no light, no sound, and no sense, nothing coming from those men. I can speculate about what it means, but I am not sure if I would even be close. I fear that they are something that has never been seen or studied or even speculated about before!

Oh Sunny, you and your friends need to try to convince Phyllis that Don and the two men are not people to fool around with. She plans to return there tomorrow and I am so afraid I do not know if I will be able to sleep. I am here, sitting on my bed, with Sarah's statue in my lap praying that Sarah will reveal herself to me and help me discover whatever it is we need to find a way through this darkness. I am starting to wonder if it is not our lives at stake here. Could it be our very souls that they are after?

Iris
