[PUZZLE?] ppics.zip images {sd3/pics/ppics.zip} Well, it's not immediately clear it's a puzzle, but someone could paste all these images together and see that it's an electrical tape map of the rooms he's interested in and all of the paintings.
Nothing that we haven't guessed already from what I can see.

Uffizi The pictures all seem to be in Rooms 43, 44, & 45 of the Uffizi
The numbers on the bottom of each picture seem to agree with the above.
See below for room 43 The Caravaggio Room:

On behalf of the dearly departed Douglas Adams, I'd like to express my outrage at the notable exclusion of room 42.

Correspondance between Uffizi and jpgs I took a look at the official Uffizi catelogue on-line
[edit bad link]
http://www.virtualuffizi.com
The contents of ppics.zip represent about one quarter of the contents of these 3 rooms. Interestingly the jpgs are in the exact same order as the listings on the web - with one exception DSC_9631.jpg - "Marie-Adelaide of France in Turkish Dress" by Jean Etienne Liotard.
This suggests to me that the website is the 'official listing' with which to compare the jpgs and focuses attention on this one painting. This painting is called "Marie Adelaide of France" in the catalogue which is different to the name in the jpg.

I had thought this. I'm not sure how the museum officially numbers their rooms; however, I know that guard stations numbered 15 and 16 (or whatever, can't remember exactly offhand), while the Virtual Uffizi shares the 43 to 45.
I figured it was just the PMs accomodating our source of info, or maybe it's something they've taken from us to integrate into the game.

Well, I've been trying to put the map back together, but no dice. I think the rest of the pictures are in ppics2.zip.

not a map The various pictures in ppics.zip do not all fit together to form a map.
The tape on a wall does form a map of the 3 rooms but many pictures cover the same parts of the map.
The photographer had the floor plan of the rooms on the wall with no pictures. Then they put on each picture in the approximate right position, then took the photo, removed the picture and repeated for the next.
The best evidence of this is in 9622 and 9623 which are use very similar parts of the map.

script in 9622? Picture DSC_9622 may contain some obfuscated writing. It's towards the top centre of the jpg right above the picure.
If someone with better Photoshop skills than me (skills like owning Photoshop would be a start) wants to mess with this it might be possible to make it legible.
If you're trying, this work from the original jpg as I messed randomly with this in a probably lossy way.

Nice eye. The part which almost seems to read "biter" really looks like written script and more than just looking at clouds.
The "iter" seems to be the clearest part, and then the character before that may be an "l" or a "b"? And before that I could see possibilities of a "B", "S", "G", "D" or even "d"?
A really effective way to clarify the image is to play with its color curves, but I can't get anything definitive to show up. I get artifacts to come out where it almost seems to read "Handbiter".
I glanced at the other images and couldn't find anything similar though, so if this is more than an artifact, what would be the significance in just this single image, and why would it be hidden?

It seems to me that its jus the tape hodling up the picture. And the "writing" is just the electrical tape showing through. But I'll take a closer look, I have Photoshop.

heres my attempt at stiching them together.
yes, there are in rooms 43, 44 and 45... and the black tape is the border of the rooms - as can be seen here: http://snipurl.com/exsm
ive left a gap between room 45 and the other two for claritys sake, there are 4 images that would totally overlap other ones, these are indicated with red line to where they should go
the blue lines are the lines of the walls, in the gaps. its these gaps which are interesting... there should be two images - maybe i forgot to import them, but i dont think so...
ive got the large fireworks working file if onyone wants it

In the lower left, what is the number for? I understand the room number, artist, and title, but the 50 x 72 or whatever is on each one?

I assume those are the sizes of the paintings, probably in centimeters.

It's been stated that all the images from ppics.zip came from rooms 43,44,45 from the Uffizi. We've also talked about the fact that all the images from the LRR flash came from those rooms also. I did some checking, all the images from the LRR flash are included in the ppics.zip. I don't know if it's significant that they are includeded, or that there are others, or what. But i'm going to post my notes to see if anyone else has thoughts.
