Possible CSI Miami game

Has anyone heard about a possible game based on the CSI Miami show (9-May-05)? Possibly a mystery about what happened to the main lead's brother who was supposedly dead, but now might be in witness protection or deep undercover for a terrorist investigation. This is sweeps week, and this particular show seemed to be throwing clues at us, for instance all the text that comes up out of the google web search pages so we can read it, and also various serial numbers on the equipment. I might be fooling myself, but it looked interesting, and i wanted to ask the experts.

I have two questions for you:

1) Are you a shill?

2) For real, are you a shill?

If the answer to both questions is no, then we should check this out. Laughing

Now be nice Very Happy

CSI-guy came into #unfiction last night asking if anyone had watched CSI and if we thought the episode might be tied into a game. Since I hadn't seen it, and what he was talking about seemed kinda gamey, I told him to post to news & rumors since I'm sure someone else around here saw the episode and would have a better idea.

Of course, to believe that, you'd have to believe that I'm not some sort of shill. Which of course I am (for Daemonworks and AotH at least). Not for CSI - or am I?

<cue ominous music>

Very Happy

Ok.... I take it back. I guess the lesson to be learned here for me, is not to judge a book by it's cover. I sincerely, (really) apologize CSI_guy... Embarassed

I guess I'm just wary of those who, (in combination,) post without registering, and reference a TV show or movie, without posting any reasons (in detail) as to why they think it may be an ARG... Anyway, I do apologize, and thank you rowan for setting me straight. Normally I don't come down hard on this stuff, but it's just become such a pain these days to keep the trolls away (not just here, of course, but in the inbox, the telephone, etc... too much static).

CSI_guy, welcome to unfiction. I apologize for my behavior, and I will personally look up the possibility of a CSI ARG, and report back to you in this thread, you have my word.

-Dorkmaster

EDIT: after a quick glance around the web, the only thing I turn up is a PC game from Ubisoft that came out in November '04... I'll chime in if I find anything else, but there doesn't appear to be any wierdness at the TV show's page or anything.

not a shill

nope, i'm not a shill. I'm just a guy interested in this phenomenon enabled by the internet. I had already done the quick google to see if there was anything about a game and all i found was the little computer game of some sort.

If this CSI show is not a hint at a game, then it is too bad; it sounded like it ought to be one.

My real interest in this stuff is trying to figure out how 10,000 people could work together to solve a real problem, which in my case is cancer research. Of course, scientists have been working together in this way across time and space for centuries, but the pace has been very slow (letters and publications). What caught my attention here was the possibility that the existing literature and personal experiences may already contain enough information to impact at least some kinds of cancer treatments. However, because it is such a complicated problem, and because the literature is vast, uncertain, and spans many types of technical jargon, single human minds and small teams have still not been able to put the pieces together.

So, if as a beginner here, I've not been taken seriously, I'm sorry. Nevertheless, I'm certain that this kind of collabortative thinking is the future of intelligence.

Again, CSI_Guy, I apologize. That was a horrible way for me to treat someone new. We've just had more than a couple posts like:

"Hey did you see that new Pauly Shore movie? That was great! I hope they make a game about it... It's called "Too Dumb To Think" and it also stars Carrot Top and Sinbad! Whew! I laughed so hard I spilled my soda! Anyway, you should check it out!"

or something, and it's been traced back to a studio and it's just a cheap, low form of advertising. So I was indeed wary of your post. But please accept my most humblest of apologies, and honestly, I welcome you to the forums.

I think the reason we're all here is because, like you, we all think this is quite an interesting phenomenon. Information sharing and collaborative effort are seldom seen so effective over a long period of time, like there is here. There's pretty much someone here to answer nearly every question, and if they can't answer, someone usually can get the creative juices flowing to point you in the right direction 99% of the time too. It's a great place and an interesting concept, and it brings up all sorts of social science questions. I don't know if we could necessarily advance cancer research, but this is definitely the way information should be shared, and what collaborative effort is all about.

For more of a serious forum (although I do hope you stay here Wink) to "solve" things in real life, check out Real Crimes, however, while there is scientific collaboration going on every day, i'm not aware of any real quality public sites for that kind of work.

Anyway, again, please know that you ARE indeed welcome here, and that I am an idiot. I hope you stick around, and get into the fine world of ARG!

I'm gonna go and see if they make a toothbrush that I can just fit onto this foot that's in my mouth. Rolling Eyes

no offence or anythin dorkmaster, but it SEEMS (just seems, just an impression) that you take this a little too seriously at times.

What, are YOU a shill now too? JUST KIDDING! Laughing

I do take it seriously though... I really hate it when deception is an acceptable business practice. This kind of forum spam that I describe (which did not take place in this thread) is just plain stupid and just takes up moderators, players, and casual reader's time. I just think we have to say "Hey, ya know what? That's not going to work here. Sell your crap somehwere else." Point is too, that of all places to try that, here is one of the worst places, since we of all people will find out who's faking it.

Anyway, I don't mean to get all ranty (y'all know that typically, I'm pretty lighthearted around here...) I just feel that the internet, and much moreso ARGs and these forums are pretty much like a frontier of sorts. We can either let that frontier's landscape be determined by those who want to make it better, safe, and fun (that's us, BTW) or we can let that landscape be determined by spamertisers and those who would rather make a quick buck off the unforum-ers than try to understand that we don't hate advertising, if it's done well and doesn't insult our intelligence. We've got TV for that. Rolling Eyes

I just think that if we put our collective feet down here, and say, we're all about advertising. We understand that it's what makes the money flow and the world go round, etc... That's cool. But you better not cross this line. We're not gonna take it.

(Cue Twisted Sister and as the fireworks show begins, DM walks away from the podium, fists raised in the air...)

CSI guy

Just saw your post. PM me here at the board. We can definitely help you work on creating the kind of collaborative community that you seek. And, you may find that playing a game with us is a good way to understand why we value collaboration so highly. We know the benefits of collaboration.

Glad to see you here and welcome. Smile

PS The shilling thing is just Dorkmaster's way of being protective of the genre, nothing personal. Smile
